I'm headed off Cape Cod tomorrow to the Attleboro area. I'm looking for a place along the way that sells ammo boxes. I haven't been able to find any locally and if I can avoid the shipping off the internet I'd like to. Any suggestions?

There's an army navy store on rt 1 in Attleboro that sells the GI ones. They usually have them in good shape but they're not cheap.

Basspro in foxborough has piles of them.

The plastic ones or the metal ones?

I got one of the plastic ones and if you get it pretty full the handle doesnt hold up all that well, popped out a few times on me. Limits the ammo I can easily carry to the range, need to find a couple of the metal army ones.

Do you mean ammo boxes or ammo cans???

Ammo boxes being what reloaders use and cans being the military metal/plastic style?

Thanks but I'm not sure I have the willpower to leave there without a firearm purchase. My bank account balance thanks you.

I meant ammo cans sorry. I didn't know the difference.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Capewalk I bought a few ammo cans at the surplus store right on main street in Hyannis a year or so ago. They were $10.00 each if you bought five or more, which was a price I was happy to pay as they were right there in stock and in great condition. Just a little dusty.

I wonder if an NES "group buy" could bring the price down to $5 each.

Not to rain on your parade but, you'd likely have to buy thousands to attain that kind of pricing. Then, finding to someone to handle that type of logistical storage and distribution would be your next hurdle. I wouldn't do it on a bet.

Yup. A couple of members did a group buy on these a couple of years ago (literally a truckload of them) and it was a lot of work.

Agreed on the semi high price. They usually have a good wall full with them however so you can hand select the best ones.

I bought one at Bananas in Wareham. I just need the one for now so I paid the 19.99 he was asking. I was able to find one in good shape. I am new to firearms so one will do me for now I'll just keep my eyes open for deal in the future. Thanks to everyone for the input.

bananas in kingston had very little of decent ammo cans last I was in......no bargain either. Last time I dropped in I did not even bother to ask for a deal as the cans where in rough shape. as of late seems more and more chinacom imitation crap and less actual surplus.

Just happen to be cleaning up and finding this to sell: I have a few ammo can with a sticker that says GI Joes N Attleboro. My dad must have pick this up at some point. Web sight is minimal but looks like they might have more than the average "surplus" store ?

I purchased some ammo cans from sarge's drop zone out of NY. I purchased cans/locks/and other assorted goodies all placed in the ammo boxes then shipped out. Although not a great deal I wasted enough gas that weekend looking around locally for the items and not finding them to really care about the cost.

PS this just came to me but. I had a buddy grab me some of the federal M855 420 rounds in ammo cans on clips. He found a place that had them on sale for 149.00 in NH He kept the cans -10.00 and had a guy buying the clips for .25ea I purchased 2 cans
149.00x2 298 - 20 for the cans 21 for the clips = 257 for 840 rounds of m855 maybe you can find a similar arrangement.

I read somewhere recently that the armed forces are destroying them now and they are going to be harder to come by in the future. We'll see I guess.

You heard wrong.

Ammo cans are one item that the DMRO(Defense Materials Reutilization Office) actually makes money on when sold at auction. When they procure them new by the millions via ammunition contracts, they pay pennies for them as they are shipped with product in them and are considered "dunnage", when they sell them off in the thousands per lot at auction, they make dollars on them.

Went to pick up a load of them once and there were acres and acres of them palleted and stacked, along with dozens of 30yd dumpsters full of dented and piereced ones being scrapped. This was just one base.......there are dozens of places like that around the country, some of them with far more than what I saw.
