So my dad went to his basic firearm safety class today. This was the first big thing. Him and I have both gone through it now, and it's almost in blood that he'll be applying for his liscense (he's not one to go through a process not to see the finish). He has to go to "Law Night" on Friday to get his papers and stuff, but for the most part he's done. When he got home he seemed pretty enthused, he didn't shoot amazing but he wasn't too bad, and he liked the Sig they had to offer. Just now he told me that he actually got his membership to the MRA today as well. I wasn't expecting him to get it so quickly...

So, for the most part, we're almost there. Just a few more obstacles in the way, but getting him to do this was the biggest one. My mom is a little weary of keeping a gun in the house, but I'm trying to convince her that if she's the only one that knows the safe's configuration, everything will be alright. We also have to actually choose a gun, whether we want a pistol or a rifle, etc, and go down and get the liscense (and my FID [grin]), but we're almost there. Hopefully we'll have everything set with a good portion of the summer left.

That's awesome hun! Maybe, after dad gets a hand gun, you and he can take mom shooting. She might actually enjoy it enough to get a license too. [smile]

That's fantastic, Kalahari! I'm extremely jealous...my father won't even go to the range with me now, let alone want to get his LTC and letting me get an FID!

Best of luck with things, and like Lynne said...Maybe you can get Mom to join you.

Mom's supportive of it all, especially since my two younger sisters are getting quite interested in the sport. She loves finding something that will "bring the family together" - that sorta stuff. She'll probably shoot once in a while but I think she gets more out of it if she watches us all having fun.

Awesome... spread the love of firearms. My wife has actually come a long way as well. She's only gone with me once so far but asked the other day to go again. I'm sure she was just willing to do what I like but heck that's ok.

My son is younger and isn't really intersted in shooting much although he does come with me a lot- so enjoy shooting with you dad!! I bet he's really looking forward to spending time with you... in addition to shooting. [wink]

Kalahari that's great! I'm trying to figure which gentleman in the class was your dad. I typically pair myself up with a female student so I didn't work with him, but I'm glad he had fun. We work hard to try and give the students the best course around. [wink]
Make sure to let us know how it goes with your dad's LTC. We like to be able to give the students an idea of what the process for their town will be since it's such a mess in a lot of places in the immediate area.
Welcome aboard!

Your sisters are getting interested too??? That's even BETTER news!! [smile] Once everything's settled, you'll have to have a "the guys vs. the girls" competition. [laugh]

Congratulations! You will have a lot of fun. Kalahari, are your a North or South student... I used to teach at North.

Regards,

$20 on the girls... I just say that from personal experience. [devil]

Chris - I go to North, great school, but way too much substance.

Siamese - Here's a quick picture of my dad and I. Please excuse his awkward facial expression (he looks bigger in this picture, not sure why): http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/107/dadandiafterworkjpeg9up.jpg

He liked the class a lot. He's not too fond of revolvers, he (like me, somewhat), find them too simple. He liked shooting the Sig a lot but I'm not sure if he shot the 226 or the 228. My dad is doing this all really for myself and my grandfather, who got me into the sport. He doesn't shoot too much now but him and I love going to the club to spend time together.

As for my sisters, one is 12 and the other 10, and the ten year old is a lot more enthused. Courtney, the older one, is actually a good shot though. She hit 5/5 plates at a fun shoot (dead quick, too), and did well on the 100 (shot a 129). The younger one is going to try and do the juniors program next year, she's a bit small but she loves to shoot so hopefully her spirit will make up for any physical disadvantages.

That is just so cool. [smile] I have the feeling that you're dad is going to get more enthusiastic about it when he's got his own gun. He might still use the excuse that he's doing it for you, but don't believe him. [laugh] [laugh] [wink]
