This same thing happened with the C7. I remember seeing a picture of one of the pre production cars in a ditch.
I towed a blue C7 from a wreck last week, the idiot rear-ended a girl in a Subaru WRX and the Vette got the worst of it. But wait, there's more, the driver had a suspended license and tried telling the cops that his girlfriend (the passenger) was driving. That story didn't fly because there were too many witnesses that said he was behind the wheel and saw them switch seats after they came to a stop. A total of 4 cars were involved because two others ran over the debris and also stopped.

I had the road from the house to my shop paved last week and one of the guys on the crew showed up in this blown and tubbed C-10. Nice rig with good attention to detail. A couple of upcoming car show adverts below as well

sold the Cobra yesterday. Listed the 4 post lift yesterday and sold that today.

It was a good run, and we had some fun togetherDSC_0015.JPG

'66 Mustang convertible went last year, Harley last month, and the Jeep is getting listed later this week. My wife and I talk about how much more money we'd have if we didn't have kids. Our financial advisor explained to us that we saved "U-Conn tuition, not Syracuse and Penn State tuition" and pointed out the shortfall we'd be at in 4 and 5 years (their Senior year of college). so some toys had to go. I'm probably out of the car hobby for 5 years

Looks like I'm making enemies in the C8 Vette group @TheFifthDentist. That didn't take too long. This is why I belong to so few car clubs and car groups. Most of them are old dudes who need a wee bit too much viagra for their cars. I gave up on the viper group (way too many old coots) and the corvette group. Instead I joined or rather was invited to join a super secret club in CT. We all enjoy our cars and go on some awesome rides without the beef sausage waving festivities from online keyboard commandos. It seems like it's a group of 2 distinct types of people, ones who are pre-ordering C8s and the others who are just day dreamers.

Yea, there are a lot of guys over there that fit the Boomer stereotype. And the way some of those guys talk about the supercars they've owned is just so out of my experience I just can't relate.
I loved that thread of people complaining about how the 'Ring time on the C8 is slower from an article about the camo'ed prototype from a year ago.

JFC.

Most people don't have the last name Schumacher, and their first names are neither Michael nor Tony. They will never drive their car at 7/10ths, nevermind 10/10ths.

I can't afford to order one now. I hope to in a couple of years. But I'm not an a^al-retentive dick who is so wrapped up in his hobby that he ruins it for everyone else.

It's supposed to be fun. Lots of guys make the car hobby miserable for others.

@VetteGirlMA

I read that thread! D!ck-swinging + first world problems to the max.
There are car enthusiasts, and then there are braggarts who have to have X status symbol to lord their perceived or actual wealth, status, importance over everyone else.

You know what impresses me more? If someone who has been blessed with wealth actually does something to help their fellow humans.

Right, in one post it's "super cars are not about the numbers" and in the next post it's "super cars are all about the numbers like ring times". Make up your damn mind.

The good news is there are a lot of people who are really into performance cars without the blabbering nonsense. Sometimes it's all about just having a good time and having a fun day.

I’m Porsche-age but own a WRX. Despite the “Vape cloud” reputation, a lot of WRX owners are serious enthusiasts. And NASIOC [The notorious “North American Impreza Owners Club”] crucifies braggarts and posers. I never claimed to be good* so no worries.

*Someone we know might have locked up the front wheel of his momo at a track day (110mph) and took a slide....

True. I know a guy that’s owned more than one Porsche and has driven them all(worked for porsche) and he’s rocking a WRX now and enjoying it.

Great video about tires... unfortunately the vast majority of the population will just slap on the budget tires.

People think I'm crazy for spending good money on Hakkas for winter and performance tires for summer.

It’s because most people have run of the mill budget vehicles. With your average Honda Civic, accord, corolla, rav 4, commuting to the grocery store and soccer practice they won’t get to the point of needing (or even noticing) expensive tires.
However, once you get into vehicles that actually make some sort of power and have some performance the gap is huge with tires...speed rating, tread, compound, all become more important .
But I agree, winter tires are different because you will notice the difference in daily driving ..I treated my run of the mill Corolla to Michelin X ice because of this .

The Contintials on my car can only be driven in +40deg F. tempture If driven or even rolled in cold weather they can come apart I put the car away in Mid November and don't take it out until April or May so no problem with having to purchase cold weather tires . Tires do make difference. My wife and I just have to deal with being a one car family for the cold months and we just use her car . Oh and I am glad we are moving away from the Corvette threads it was starting to get boring not being a Corvette owner . The last one I owned was years ago a1965 convertable and I don't miss it one bit. It was one of the most uncomfortable cars to drive I have ever owned .

Back in the mid-80's, a friend of mine had a 1979 Corvette, which he hardly ever drove. I'm pretty sure he bought it for the looks. He probably spent more time washing and waxing it than actually driving it. He let me take it for a spin once, I wasn't impressed. Granted, 1979 was likely the worst year for the Corvette, with a whopping 150hp, the 79' Dodge Little Red Express Truck runs away from it.
Anyway, he sold it a few years later, and I asked "why'd you sell it, you loved that car?".
He flatly replied, "anybody that tells you how much they love driving a Corvette is full of sh*t".

The gap is huge even for dailies. The shit tires don't run as well in the rain as better tires do, amongst other things. (tread life, noise, etc. ) Mary hairnet will never notice it because she doesn't drive anywhere and probably cancels plans when it rains... but if you DD any real amount, the distinction becomes pretty apparent.

Even if I own a shitbox or something boring, I refuse to run shit tires on it. Too much liability, and they often wear out too fast and this creates a TCO problem, I need to get at least 2 years out of a set of (whatever). Otherwise it's just setting cash on fire, and crap tires don't stand up to lots of miles.

We have the Michelin Pilot Super Sport on the WRX and they are astonishingly good.

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=Pilot+Super+Sport
I'm running Michelin PS4S (similar tire) on my GS350 this year and loving them... the hotter it is, the more they stick.... and still pretty killer in the rain, too.

ETA: for others reading (I know you know this already garandman) these tires MUST come off when it gets cool out... below about 50F or so these things turn into hockey pucks... and if its cold and rainy, you're riding in a death machine. Every time some guy on CL crashed an RCF it's because it was cold and raining and they were going too fast... and the cars at least at one point, came stock with PSS.

Another FYI. The OEM tires that come on a car are usually a special tire, and even the one you buy aftermarket with the same name are different. OEM’s tune the tires for mpg rating, quiet, smooth ride and low price. Handling, wet braking, snow and ice performance are far down their list.

The Michelin LTX tires our van came with lasted half as long as the replacements of the same name. Subaru Outbacks used to come with Bridgestone Potenza RE92A’s, ranked 23rd out of 25 A/S tires in snow and ice performance in Tirerack reviews. Etc.
