My son is getting married in November. He's asked me to go camping / hunting in errol nh area for the weekend of oct 18. Already got a campsite reserved. Plan is to find a place for snow shoe hare maybe grouse. No dogs.....just taking the shotguns for a walk. We don't mind the challenge and never mind coming home with an empty bag but figured I'd ask the nes hunters for advice. Any areas near errol we can check out to push the bushes for hare or grouse?

we run up every year for deer, and just getting out of cell service area.

tons of gravel roads, off both 16 and 26, with access to open areas. ive seen birds everywhere, and tracks of hares in the snow, but never targeted them.

there is a guide up there with hounds that is reasonable, and we almost used them last year, but they were booked when we finalized our dates for the hunt. MillerOutdoors.com

You see grouse just off the gravel roads?

You don't need a dog up there for grouse. Locals drive the roads and shoot them with a .22 Go up further in Canada and you have spruce grouse which could be taken by hitting over the head with a stick. This is what I'm told by a Maine buddy who went up there for a trip, and they basically had to kick them to make them fly and there were so many they didn't bother starting to hunt til the afternoon because there was a limit and you'd fill it.

Grouse up there aren't super nutty and flush early like the ones down in MA. If there are any left in MA at all that is.

Pretty much what has been said. Parking and walking the woods feels more like hunting, but everyone I know has no issue road hunting (on gravel roads, that is). I'd share my secret spots with you, but I really don't have any.

Errol area is great, except for a metric ton of tourists, lol. Plenty of chances for moose sightings as well.

LL Cote is a nice store with ok prices. Damn Cafe is a pleasant spot to unwind and have a coffee / snack, especially if you bring your wife. If you did bring your wife, the furniture store across the street from LL Cote is a good place to let her roam while you're hunting or stocking up in the other store. No idea about the night life, but Colebrook just opened a "gentlemen's club," haven't been but may be interesting just for the comedy factor.

Ok cool. Well check out some gravel roads and maybe find some openings off them and push around. Not sure I'm into road blasting them lol

Well try the bush pushes and sew what happens......worse comes to worse well road blast one just to take to camp and cook on the fire.

Most time in nice weather grouse will be on side of gravel road a lot of guys just road hunt them.
I walk the old skid roads and will put them up.
Best method with out a dog I have found is walk and stop walk and stop. They get nervous and flush. Also grouse don’t fly far so you can usually see where they land if you can’t get a shot.

Hare will be bit harder this time of year as they will still be brown.
