About 110,000 Californians have bought a gun since the coronavirus arrived

That is around 0.28% of the population.

I love all the fear and BS in the article.
Considering that there are just over 4 million California gun owners, that finding suggests that roughly 55,000 additional households now have a loaded firearm within reach of unauthorized users. About half of those who acknowledged such a switch lived in homes with children or teens.

Finally, the survey results painted a worrisome picture of the state and its residents. Among those surveyed, 13.3% said they knew someone who might physically hurt themselves on purpose — and 7.5% of those respondents said the person they were thinking of had suffered a pandemic-related loss.

No doubt the estimated 2.1 million guns legally sold in the US in the 1st 3mo of the COVID19 Pandemic will be claimed to have caused the spike in violent crime. Who wants to use one of the 420 million *old* guns in the US to commit violent crime during a *new* pandemic?

The paper referenced was posted to a preprint server - one of several that allow early publication of un-reviewed research that may benefit critical response to medical concerns like the COVID19 pandemic. Of course, since gun violence has been an epidemic for decades, such critical research needs to be seen in the run up to the election. Now that the media have already picked the story up, peer-review and publication is only a formality to justify grants from leftist foundations (Joyce, McArthur, etc.).

Gun control advocates are driving a new low in credibility...
