Trying to get the standard A2 stock off my AR but cannot get the screw at the top rear of the stock to turn. Am close to stripping it, in fact.

I've tried PowerBlaster (like WD40), a little heat, but it will budge.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Steve

My cousin, who's a mechanic, was bragging about a spray he uses to free up bolts. He says it works everytime. I'll post back what he tells me.

I have an impact driver. It's a little device that you hit with a hammer and it turn the screw little by little. When this tool was not available to me, I used to remove the case covers on my dirt bikes by using a screw driver (the biggest that would fit) and a hammer. You tension up the screw driver as much as you can with one hand and whack the handle of the screw driver with the hammer.

That made short work of steel screws frozen into an aluminum case!

Steve gets a spankin' new gun.

Steve shoots it.

It hits great.

Right away, Steve wants to take it apart and @#$% with it.

Boys will be boys, eh?

I found the most important thing was that the screwdiver blade fits the slot tight. If you have a sacrificial screwdriver, you can try heating that with a torch then holding it to the screwhead to realease any loctite that may be on the threads. Give it a few moments for the heat to conduct down the screw before trying to turn & go slow.

Adam's idea on an impact driver would also work very well. It generates allot of torque and holds the blade in the slot due to the hammer blow. I've used them in the past & there are many times I've wanted one since.(may need to go pick one up while I'm thinking about it)

Guilty as charged.

I mean, you have seen my truck, haven't you? :)

Try some Kroil if you have any.
When I switched over to an A1 stock, I found the screw gave me a little bit of resistance, but on inspecting it once I did get it out, there wasn't that much loc-tite on it.
Soak it good for a spell and see what happens.
It could have been cross-threaded when it was assembled initially.

Indeed I have, and the next time I get a ride in it will be the first time. [roll]

As Jimmy Carter almost once said, I have lust in my heart for your monstrous, big, big footprint yellow truck. I especially enjoy gazing at that serious-looking bumper-mounted, instantly-available, race-ready car jack!

You do give rides to occasional gun-totin' hitchhikers, don't you?
