I think it is great, and would hope that maybe someof the small towns here get together and do something like that. The utility co. have too much of a monoply.

Did you read this paragraph?!?!?!
State Rep. Jay Kaufman, D-Lexington, introduced a bill (H 3294) that would require investor-owned utilities (IOU's) such as NStar and MassElectric to sell their power distribution assets - the substations, poles and wires - to communities interested in buying them after state regulators have determined a fair market price for the assets. Municipalities could then operate their own power companies.

So maybe the Government should get into the health care insurance business too. After all, we'd all pay cheaper rates or maybe even get it for free! What an idea!!!!! Maybe they should force all the oil companies to sell their facilities to them so that we can get cheeper gas and heating oil too.

Thankfully, that was obvious sarcasm. For me to get MVP Health insurance here in VT, I'd go bankrupt. Fortunately, I've got choices other than MVP, but they're the ONLY HMO offered.

2005 Total MonthlyPremium $1123.4 (NY was $929.07)

2006 Total MonthlyPremium $1522.43 (NY is $1004.32)

2006 Employee share $837.59 (NY is $319.48)

Employee increase from 2005 $360.36 (NY is $36.58)

Why so much in VT, you may ask? State mandated coverages. The insurers HAVE to offer us all kinds of stupid CRAP, thanks to our state legislators.
