The Ware Gun Shop in Ware, MA

Sorry to hear that. I've saw firsthand the son could be a jerk but I was unaware the father could be the same way. Good to know.

I guess I would not call him a jerk just not friendly like I would expect from a sales point of view. Just make you think you are not wanted there.

The father gave us a price for two guns over the phone and we put a down payment on them at the same time. When we went to pick them up the son tried to up the price on not one but BOTH guns[rofl] [rofl] . Luckily we had put the purchase price of the cheaper of the two as down payment on both of them so he couldn't fight it too much. [smile]

Let Down

I was completley let down when I went there. I drove 50 minutes to get there, they didn't fix my gun, and when I got fed up and went to get it they tried selling it back to me...it took a little explaining to let them know it was my gun. I'll never go back. I don't mind paying, as long as some professionalism goes along with it.

Hey Nut, welcome to the fourm, sorry your first post had to be a bad experience with a gun shop, I at first had good experiences at the Ware GS but recently have stop going.

The only reason I will go back is if I make an expensive new purchase and call first for a quote. For some reason telling them that I live in Ware seems to help with both price and service.

But even then it would have to be a great difference in price from the good shops around. I much rather give and extra $10 or $20 to Tombstone.

what happened to Nutshell is one of many reasons i dont go to the Ware gun shop.i really dont care how great their selection or prices are i will glady pay more form another shop where i get better service.
like i said before for anyone who is thinking of going their, dont.

MagnumMike, where is "Tombstone"? I have to say I'm new to the sport. Just got my license about 2 months ago and I'm still leaning the ropes. I'd love to be able to deal with one company all the time. I don't mind long drives. I live 10 minutes from S&W but still haven't gone there yet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Tombstone is even further for you but IMO worth the trip. Art who seems to be there during the week is really nice and good to deal with as are the other guys. This is a place were after conducting your bussiness even if it is just buying ammo these guys shake your hand and say thank you as you leave.

Here is the website, they are right on Rt. 9 in Brookfield about 15 mins or so down the road from the Ware GS.

I made the fairly short trip out to the Ware shop once, when I was looking for an AR. The older guy (assuming he was the owner) was so arrogant and treated my girlfriend and I like crap. I had asked to look at his gun safes and he was so put off that he had to stop boxing up guns to bring us downstairs. I will NEVER go back and highly recommend going elsewhere.

They advertise that they have the only indoor shooting range at a gun shop in Massachusetts. I can only imagine how they'd react if you asked to try something.

Their "indoor range" is nothing more than a tiny, unventilated room in their basement.

When I was their during a Sig GSR 1911 factory demo extravaganza a few years ago they had a tattered, shot-up silhouette target tacked on the back wall ten feet away and the bored salesman told me I could shoot at that.

Not very impressive, and not much of a chance to get a good feel for that gun. The experience was not at all what I'd hoped it would be.

Ware Gun Shop is OK with me

I've bought 4 guns and made many ammo stops at the Ware Gun Shop and I've never really had a bad experience. The Owner's son is decent to me and actually throws in free boxes of ammo when I buy there. He said it's because I'm "easy to deal with" (I'm assuming it's because I never haggle over the price). I've only bought from the owner once and he was decent enough. He did give me some very odd advice though. I think it's a good store if you know what you are looking for and you don't expect to talk them down like it's a yard sale. The guys at R & R in Belchertown are true gentlemen, and I would go there more often if it was closer than Ware (I'm in Rutland). Dave B. at Tombstone is also a good guy and he's got a huge selection, but the one time I was in there it was all used guns and I prefer to spend the extra money to buy new. Frankly, in a state as liberal as Massachusetts, I'm happy to give my business to ANY gun store just to help them keep afloat in such a hostile anti-gun environment.

I have mixed feelings about the WGS. I have bought two guns there (one was in stock and one was a special order). The first time I was there it was my first gun and I detected no eagerness on the guy's part to help me figure out what I needed. He seemed either impatient or totally uninterested in my joy at getting started in this crazy hobby/lifestyle. I bought the gun, cleaning kit, holster, ammunition, pepper spray, etc. and he threw in 100 free rounds of .22 cal. The second time I was there I told him I could get a Beretta 9000s for about $350 on gunbroker.com (with the transfer and shipping) and I asked if he could entice me with something as good from his store for around the same price because I prefer to buy local. He ordered me the Beretta for $370 which seemed decent to me. This time I aslo purchased ammo, more pepper spray (my dog chewed the first can), cleaning supplies, and I can't remember what else because he didn't even write it out on the slip. This time he didn't throw in any ammo. I wonder if you have to be a regular customer before they open up and get friendly and helpful? I've been going to Tombstone in Brookfield more often because there they seem really eager to help a guy out and I feel more welcome there. My only gripe about Tombstone is they aren't open as often.

Ware is definitely hit or miss, and mostly miss. The owner, and his son are miserable. A couple of their regular employees are cool, but they're not usually there when I go in.

I like Tombstone, R&R 90% of the time, and Nicks in Palmer. AND, if you feel like a trip to South Hadley, Personal Defense Specialists is small, but they're fantastic!

Ware Gun Shop- Ware, MA

Where did the original WGS thread go? I posted a somewhat negative review about them some time ago and I wanted to update it with some more recent experience. Mainly, I felt uncomfortable in the store because I got the impression I was wasting the guy's time by being there. Maybe I was just there at a bad time before. Especially the last time I was there I got some excellent service and advice. The young guy (who I believe is the general manager and the owner's son) was very patient and helpful with all my questions. He had a lot of interesting things to say and I look forward to visiting the store again!

Edit: I could swear that this thread was gone earlier today. Oh well, either you mods are working some strange voodoo or I'm losing it

I had the same experience, I felt as though the older guy thought I was wasting his time. I asked him to see several guns and tac light and it was like are going to buy this or not? Determined to buy some ammo, at least, I asked if he could get me 1000 rnds of S&B .223 and it changed his personality right away. Not like thats the mutha load but it was a purchase. When I came back to pick it up he was very nice. I guess it most get frustrating having window shoppers all day. However I would do business again, maybe if there prices get lower. They sell the S&W M&P compact for the most $ out of a handfull of shops in this area

Well it seems to be hit or miss at the Ware GS but just wanted to say today I was there and had a good time talking with the owner. I asked about AR and AK rifles and we BS for about twenty mins. So I guess when a shop like this gets some bad reviews even from myself I like to also report when I have a good experience.

By the way if you are in the Ware area this is the place to go for new AR rifles, their prices are pretty good and they will obviously get you whatever you want.

last week

was looking for a recoil spring last week, he had none. also looking for HP 45 ammo, not much of that also, and yes the "kid" behind the counter not the nicest person "selling" things

Sorry about necroposting here, but I went to WGS yesterday to look at surefires (wanted a G2 LED). Good price on that!

The kid didnt really say much, just went about doing his thing while my parents patiently waited for me to get done with the whole kid in a toy store thing.

Didn't give us no trouble, but wasn't exactly helpful either. Prices all seemed to be pretty good, and they let the three of us as-of-yet unlicensed folks browse.

I stop in there any time I am passing through Ware. Where? Anyway...They seem to have a good selection of new and used and yes the "kid" has little time for small talk and is always ready to push for the sale. The older guy ignored me for about 10 minutes as I poked around but sprang to life and was all chatty once I came to the counter with $20 worth of cleaning stuff. I did buy a ruger p345 in there and they had the best price around.

A quick story, the last time I was in there, there was a guy with his college age daughter in the shop. I assume he was taking her back to UMass. Dad was a recent recipient of his LTC and he was buying a new SW 1911 and a Berrata 9mm. He was a happy man. When his daughter asked, "Dad - why do you need to buy 2 guns?" He just smiled with a big grin and said, "because I can honey, because I can..." The man at the counter was actually very helpful on ammo for them and a run down on basic gun laws, carry and car transport, etc., which seemed accurate as far as I know. So, thats my experience...and when my wife asks - Why?? - "Because I can honey, because I can..........."[grin]

Went to the Ware gun shop again today.....looking for a holster for my flashlight. Young guy behind the counter didnt even know i was in the store till i walked right up to him (20 minutes after entering and browsing), and said "hey do you have....", at which point he said they only had what was on the racks, and if what i wanted wasnt there, that i should just order it online.

Not very friendly but I will give them another try.

Went in today to get my deposit back on a gun I wanted. They could not get it because their supplier was closed for the holidays. This was after they told me they would have it in a couple of days then it turned out it would take more than a week. I got my money back and wished the guy a happy new year and he did not even say good bye or anything. Not friendly at all but I guess they treated me some what fairly.

Beware Of WARE GUN SHOP

CAUTION stay away from WARE GUN IN WARE MASS.[angry][angry]
I put $50.00 down to hold a firearm and they won't refund my money!

I asked if they will hold guns and I was told they would hold it for 30 days with a deposit. I told him I was working a deal with a friend for the same gun and if it fell thru I would buy his. I cancelled the purchase in 6 days and was told "we don't just give money back" [rofl]

Cris ,the manager, said "what do we get out of it if you don't buy it from us". After sometime he said just this time ill refund 50% of the deposit!! Its not the money , I don't like being decieved....I explained to him that mass general law says you have to disclose your
layaway procedure and he said "I know the law im a cop!" I took this as a threat. [laugh2]

I asked him if it was worth losing a customer over it and he said he didn't care and then hung up.

The best part is when I called back, the owner answered and said this discussion is over and he hung up on me.

I'll file a claim with the credit card company. I just wanted to warn anyone elce from wandering into The Ware gun hole. From now on ill stick to four seasons in Woburn.
