A Fall River elementary student brings a toy gun to school and threatens other students. The eight-year-old boy is suspended from school for the time being. He's been charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, disturbing a school assembly, and threatening to commit a crime.

Fall River police were called to the Frank Silvia Elementary School on Tuesday morning, where several students were in a panic after allegedly seeing a gun in the hands of a classmate.

Students claim the eight-year-old showed them the gun on the school bus, then threatened them with it. More threats were allegedly made in the bathroom at school.

With the safety of 575 students to worry about, Principal Denise Ward heard about the gun and immediately took action. She confiscated the student's bag, and called police.

Inside the boy's bag was a toy gun. It is a replica of a Smith and Wesson 9 millimeter. It shoots plastic BB's with the help of a spring action mechanism. We're told it was originally designed to be training weapons for police departments. It's considered to be unsafe if used the wrong way.

The eight-year-old was arrested, charged, and suspended from school until further notice.

The principal also tells Eyewitness News there's a meeting set up with the boy's parents after February vacation.

I think a child like this should be sent to a firearms safety class at the parents expence to teach him or her how serious there actions are.
