As an owner of several forums myself, youd be suprised how many of those members are zero posters, or never exceed 3. they have a script you can easily install into your forum control panel that will "weed" out the lurkers.

Why would you want to weed out the lurkers?

You're providing a great service to them and they might post in the future that one nugget of wisdom we all need.

I agree. There are a lot of people that you see that say that they lurked for several weeks or months. Then said that this is good information and posted a question. Even if it's thier only question, and it helped them out, that I believe that this fourm did it's job.

At least that's the ideal that I've gotten from what I've seen that Derek wanted of this place.

I fully agree with Mike and C-pher!

No need to weed anyone out. There are forums I'm registered on that I rarely visit. Causes no harm to anyone.

I also concur we don't need to weed out the lurkers. I have seen where quite a few have been lurking for awhile and now have started posting. There is alot of very good information here.
There are a few boards I am on that I do not post much.

well right now its not a problem at 800 users/
but in a couple years when you have a huhndred thousand unique account members,of which only 250 end up being active ,it tends to make your database sluggish.. :)
when Americas Army the game first came out 4 year ago or so i was running an Americas Army "clan" siteexclusively for Military and Civil Service members. After 3 years we had soem asatronomical number forum members from all the redirects and word of mouth, but only 176 of those thousands upon thousands of accounts were actually active unit members..
needless to say pruning was in order

Well with regard to Nickle's comment: No comment.

I really think that a lot more people lurk, than post. It gives us frustrated writers out there an audience, for either good or bad.

I say welcome to all and I hope you enjoy the forum whether you post or not.
