I live in Spencer and applied to have my LTC renewed almost 6 months ago, and I still haven't heard back. I called the police department a couple weeks ago, and they said there's nothing to worry about and that there's a big backlog. They said it's taking this long for a lot of people. Does it sound like this is the truth?

I have a class A unrestricted LTC, and I haven't been in trouble with the police or anything, so I can't imagine any reason that they would not want to renew the LTC. Has the renewal process taken this long for anyone else? I'm wondering what's going on!

Are you past your 90 day grace period?

Took me little over 15 weeks to get my new ID's. When I called my PD for an update, their voicemail said basically "we are so freakin backlogged don't bother us, we wont call you back, we can't keep up, you're ****ed, have a nice day."

If there is that many people with an LTC, why the **** is MA still not 2A compliant?!? This just proves the $100 "processing fee" is a bunch of BULL! Man, this shit pisses me off!!!!

I applied for renewal before my LTC expired. And now it's past the 90 day grace period, but that isn't my fault.

I could understand if the process took 4 months for a first-time LTC applicant. But I was just RENEWING mine, so I would think it would be quick and easy. If I buy a new gun the background check takes 10 minutes. So why does a LTC renewal take longer than that? This state becomes more anti-gun all the time.

Yes, it's normal, unfortunately. I'm coming up on 5 months myself and I live in what I consider a small town. Check wasn't cashed for a month, and the wait has been on since the end of May.

Ludicrous.

What is he responsible for the licensing delays?

My license had a late Feb. expiration date. Started paperwork in early Dec. Did the new pic and paid fee with local P/D on Jan. 24. New license was issued by the State on the 89th day of the 90 day "grace period". License finally found it's way to me during the first week of June. Just shy of six months to complete the renewal.

JFC. this state is ridiculous. was hoping to GTFO before i needed my renewal, but i am honestly not sure if that'll happen considering now it looks like i should submit SIX MONTHS early instead of the THREE i was considering.

total horse shit. if they can't maintain this broken system, they need to dismantle it.

I when I called the PD, a couple weeks ago they said it would take four months. Back in June, when I submitted my paperwork, they said it would be three months.

Ok, so what happens if you go past that 90 day "grace" period? Can you not use your guns until they get around to getting it back to you? If you keep a papertrail of what you have been doing, does that cover you?

don't think there's ever been a court case, but just like you can't go buy a gun or ammo without a LTC, i'd imagine that you'd be in violation of some law, somewhere-or that they'd make one-if you were so much as in possession of firearms without a valid LTC. they'd love to give one of us the "table shot".

See, thats what I mean. It's not MY fault. Why should I be at risk just becuase the state is taking too damn long. I bet if I went in 6 moths before it expiered, the local PD would have me escorted out, saying I was WAY to early. Yikes

because massachusetts. it's for the children, etc.

every gun owner too inconvenienced by this bullshit who says **** it and gives up is a win for them, every person who simply doesn't go through the steps to even get a LTC in the first place is a bigger win for them.

none of what happens with this system is an accident. this is what they want to happen.

I'd advise anyone that feels they have been waiting too long for their renewel, to call the CHSB at 617-660-4722 between the hours of 8am and 6 pm. Give them the info they ask for, be advised they may want your pin # also. The gentleman i spoke with was very polite and curteous.
I was told that they had processed my App two weeks prior to my calling and they had already sent it back to my PD. You maybe surprised to find out your app was processed and your local PD is sitting on it..........

This.

there is no back log. They are playing games. My brother in law just got his renewal in Middleton. 3 weeks from interview to licence in hand!

One option is to file for judicial review in the District Court. This can only be done between days 41 and 130 after the date of application.

Mass General Laws Chapter 140 Section 131(f)

Any applicant or holder aggrieved by a denial, revocation or suspension of a license, unless a hearing has previously been held pursuant to chapter 209A, may, within either 90 days after receiving notice of such denial, revocation or suspension or within 90 days after the expiration of the time limit during which the licensing authority is required to respond to the applicant, file a petition to obtain judicial review in the district court having jurisdiction in the city or town wherein the applicant filed for, or was issued, such license. A justice of such court, after a hearing, may direct that a license be issued or reinstated to the petitioner if such justice finds that there was no reasonable ground for denying, suspending or revoking such license and that the petitioner is not prohibited by law from possessing same.
