I'm thinking about building a .50 bmg rifle off an AR-15 single shot receiver.

1. Is this rifle caliber allowed to be owned in boston?
2. If I read the boston ordinance correctly it is semi-auto AR-15's that are banned and since I'm using a single shot receiver I should be okay, Right?

thanks guys.

I found no caliber restrictions in the regulation.

That's my understanding, as it states:

Chapter 596 of The Acts Of 1989 (AKA Boston AWB) said:
For the purposes of this act the following words shall have the following meanings:-

(1) "Assault weapon", all rifles and shotguns designated as assault weapons in this section...

>snip<

(c) AR-15 semi-automatic rifles;

>snip<

"Assault weapon" shall not include:

>snip<

(J) a rifle or shotgun which is a single shot weapon;

Thanks, Kevlar.

Just wanted a second opinion. It's exciting. I'll have a single shot 50 BMG sooner or later!

I was talking to a Boston cop the other day and he mentioned something about there being some paperwork that could be filled out to buy an assault weapon as a resident of Boston?

This could have just be a cop that was (as usual) ignorant of the laws.

The one-time opportunity for registration is long gone.
