I can say he was a great American! I will not say that about any of the others that have held the oval office after him.

Sam Donaldson is on MSNPC saying how GHWB used to like to tell Monica jokes!
Anyway RIP to an original "Milford man." Looking forward to another Trump-bashing funeral week.

Anywhere in 1985 or so, would be fine
In 1988 as the Reagan decade was drawing to a close, I had hopes that the 1980s would last forever, and that George Bush would be Reagan's third and fourth terms, and that HIS Vice President might go on to be Reagan's 5th and 6th......

Instead under Bush, I got my first glimpses of RINOism and Neocons.

Bush 41's idiosyncracies and mannerisms were comedic. Plus "Wouldn't be Prudent", "New World Order", "1000 points of light", "nahhtt gahh doooit", and of course "Read. My. Lips". (Plenty of those and other Bushisms that Dana Carvey on SNL nailed so well). Then around 1992 the aloof & 'out of touch' Bush was very well painted as such, by the media. When he looked at his wristwatch during a debate with Clinton, it didn't help. Clinton wiped the floor with him in the election.

So Clinton's in, and then it got worse: "grunge" or "alternative" music, whatever the f*** it was called, arrived. The weird, oddball shit that used to just be on WFNX radio or on college campii where it belonged, became mainstream. With these, I now had confirmation that the 1980s were over. It didn't get better. Then everyone started recycling to the point of it being a religious fanaticism, and wearing bicycle helmets. I was overcome with a sense of "Christ, this is f****d up. Just drop me off in 1985 and leave me there. PLEASE".

No-one dropped me off in '85, so in the 1990s I just went about my business not giving a shit anymore.

After Clinton, I thought Bush 43 might be Reagan's third term, but, no. Just no. And it was Bush 43's non-Reaganism, that gave us nobummer.

Ross Perot in 1992, and Ron Paul later on, both gave me political boners; but both left me with blueballs.

And here I am today. Trump's the closest to Reagan that I've seen in 30 years, but unless the country gets its head out of its ass I think he'll probably be the last one of that ilk that makes it to the Presidency. Trump's Trumpism, with what infusions of Reagan that he has, will give us a president hilary (even if it's a "Weekend at Bernie's" hilary because she's dead but the dems need her name in the Oval Office); or will give us a nobummer II, at some point. It's a cycle.

    Rest in Peace, President Bush.

"It wouldn't be prudent, if you're not up there, doing that thing up there, that you do up there....." (in Dana Carvey voice).

I hope broccoli's not on the menu, either...

I hated the guy at the time.
After Clinton, GW, Obama, and even Trump,
This guy was George Washington in comparison.

So, all the shitty hairbands that appeared after 85 and pretty much died in 1992 was because Clinton went on MTV and played his saxophone on Arsenio Hall?
Clinton killed Headbanger's ball and brought us The Real World too.

I don't know if they're related, or if correlation = causality here, but yes: with Clinton came the end of 80s music.

And shit, I just remembered......every time I hear Fleetwood Mac's "Dont. Stop. Thinking about to-mor-row..." it reminds me of how Clinton used that song in some rally or something. I liked the song back in the early-mid 1980s but once Clinton put a stain on it, I would always change the station if it came on.

Trump's answer today is a lot different than Reagan's in 1980! Reagan/Bush also signed the 1986 amnesty law giving 3 millions illegals citizenship Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 - Wikipedia

You saved me from having to post it.

His background pretty much guaranteed that destiny.

The MSM is at present lionising him. No surprises there.

I didn't much care for him. His wife was a decent sort, and I did pause at her passing.

    Russian newspapers headlines today:
Последний друг СССР: умер Джордж Буш-старший

Translation: Last friend of USSR: George Bush senior has died
    -------------------------------
    Condolences to George W. Bush

    December 1, 2018
    14:50
Full text of the message of condolences:

    Dear George,

Please accept my deepest condolences over the passing of your father, former US President, George Herbert Walker Bush.

An outstanding politician, he devoted his entire life to serving his country, both as a serviceman during wartime and in high-ranking public posts in peacetime. As US President during one of the most important periods of world history, he showed political wisdom and foresight, and always sought balanced decisions even in the most difficult situations.

George Bush Sr. was well aware of the importance of a constructive dialogue between the two major nuclear powers and took great efforts to strengthen Russian-American relations and cooperation in international security.

I had the good fortune to have met with him several times. I recall with particular warmth him organising our meeting at your wonderful summer home in Kennebunkport.

My fellow citizens and I will always cherish the memory of George Bush Sr. In this sad time, I would like to pass worlds of heartfelt sympathy and support to all members of your large family. May you have endurance during this time of grievous and tragic loss.

    Vladimir Putin
    --------------------

God, I beg you, please, protect Our President and do not let him ever end up like this!:

While this may be true, perhaps it deserves another thread, so out of respect we can devote this one to honor a man who devoted his entire life to national service, from combat pilot to CIA Chief to Ambassador to the UN to VP and President.

Bush resigned from the NRA right after the Olkhama city bombing in 1995, said that they were too anti government. Its all well and good for the bushes and their ilk to be government lovers, they never have or will experience government abuse....... However he did give us Clarence Thomas and some other ok judges.

Liberals will dedicate this whole month to melting the entire House of Bush into McCain mold which worked for them so nicely already. They will also make sure our masses have more ammunition against Our President. If we want a different country than liberals do we better face the facts and move on.

Those very same liberals who were accusing him only few months ago from #ME2 will be now "honoring the man" by making him a buddy of Clinton and Obamba.
