George H.W. Bush dies at 94. The 41st president of the United States helped guide the world out of a four-decade Cold War.

Bush was a steadfast force on the international stage for decades, from his stint as an envoy to Beijing to his eight years as vice president and his one term as commander in chief from 1989 to 1993.

The last veteran of World War II to serve as president, Bush came to be seen as a consummate public servant and a statesman who helped guide the nation and the world out of the U.S.-Soviet Cold War that had carried the threat of nuclear annihilation.

He was also the father to George W. Bush, the 43rd president of the United States.

Never trusted him. Couldn't remember where he was the day JFK was killed, Reagan was forced into making him his VP, then two months after inauguration was almost killed. Bush Sr. was the original Deep Stater.

Still, I have a soft spot for him because the Gulf War was the last time I feel we had a real military and America was a more unified country. Once Clinton took over in 93, the nation would never recover.

He wasn't the best president or even a particularly good one but he did come from a legacy of the rule of law and his service to this country can't be ignored.

We seem to forget he was the CIA before he was president.....something like Putin.

He was a generally decent person, despite signing the import ban and showing a lack of respect for diversity (as in "No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God.")

It's too bad that frigging import ban didn't sunset when he died.... cancer from GHWB and the gun mafia.... fun. Trump can only be jealous of that level of protectionism.

Yes, and that's why I don't completely detest him like I do some former presidents who are still alive. Bush Sr. voted for Hilary, he wasn't on our side, he was on the side of the Deep State, but like McCain he served, he did believe in rule of law and had Ferguson or Baltimore riots happened under him, they would have been shut down quickly.

McCain tho hated Trump because he was mentally damaged from the tumor and from losing in 2008. It rattled the RINO's when they saw a reality TV star/real estate mogul win an election talking and acting like a combination of a 12 year old and a union construction worker from NYC.

I've been asked the perverbial question "if you could have lunch with any person from history alive or dead who would it be". My response to raised eyebrows has always been bush 41. He was embassador to China and cia director in the 70s.....then VP and pres. The shit that man must know is insane.

Decent Man who served his Country. However we all would have been better off if he was never elected President. He was a Neocon and a RINO all in one package. He squandered the Regan legacy and started the Republican Party down the path to where McCain, Romney, Flake, Sasse, Baker and a host of others became the mess that the Republican Party is today.

I heard him speak in person in the 80’s. He was entirely different in person than on TV, really impressive.

He graduated Phillips Academy in Andover In 1942 just shy of his 18th birthday. His family and girlfriend Barbara wanted him to go to Yale. So he stuck around and enlisted in the Navy on his 18th birthday. He volunteered to be a torpedo bomber pilot, at the time just about the most hazardous MOS in the military: because they needed him.

Read the book "Flyboys". If he had been captured and not picked up by a Sub, history would be much different today.

    Chichijima incident - Wikipedia

"Nine airmen escaped from their planes after being shot down during bombing raids on Chichi Jima, a tiny island 700 miles (1,100 km) south of Tokyo, in September 1944. Eight were captured. The ninth, the only one to evade capture, was future US President George H. W. Bush, then a 20-year-old pilot.[1]

After the war, it was discovered that the captured airmen had been beaten and tortured before being executed. The airmen were beheaded on the orders of Lt Gen. Yoshio Tachibana (立花芳夫, Tachibana Yoshio). American authorities claimed that Japanese officers then ate parts of the bodies of four of the men."
