410 shotgun

Now you made me want to go buy one! Maybe this model:

I had a mossberg single shot bolt action. I regret selling it. Very fun gun. CZ makes reasonable priced doubles that look like fun.

Yes...
I’ve got one of those also. Effective range of about 6 feet. Mine is the shorter barrel model though.

Single shot H&R made in MA. Awesome little full choke gun. Ejector is awesome too
Sweet guns. Had a .30-.30 with a 16" barrel. Frickin deerslayer. Get off the shot, mash the ejector thingamajig right next to the hammer, little flip to eject the shell, slip in the next round (just in case--never needed a second shot) and close her all up in less time than it took Fred to unshoulder his super-scoped bolt action 30 caliber mega-farm-boy Thunderbolt Special.

I think NEF (New England Firearms) guns are essentially the same gun. They're cheap enough--buy one!

I thought both companies were long gone. No?
I have no idea. I think at one time one company bought the other, and the guns are much the same except for the forestocks. I loved my H&R, and recently bought a couple NEFs because they looked like the same thing with a different name.

Who owns one? Do you use it often?
Seems like a fun gun to have while creek fishing, just in case I stumble onto a grouse, or a marmot.
have two of them and shoot skeet with both. One is a Tri-Star side by side. The other is the Henry side gate and have shot trap, 5 stand and sporting clays with it. Get some funny looks at first, but I can stand with the guys using 12 gauge just fine. Get one, you will enjoy it. The only real issue is the ammo. Expensive and hard to find. Re-loading will be your friend

I think it went from H&R to NEF then Marlin bought them. Then Remington
Last I knew PSA owned the brand and was doing nothing with it.

I have a Henry lever 410....the longer barrel version that takes chokes. It's a fun squirrel getter and fun to shoot trap with every now and then.....it draws attention on the trap range especially when I break over 20 with it which I do many times.

Would not recommend as a creek fishing companion though it's kinda big for that. If my goal were to have a light creek fishing 410 for an occasional bird......I'd go with a thompson center contender single shot pistol lol

Or possibly a cheep single shot 410

Yes, a combination .410/.22 Magnum Double Badger made by Chiappa. I got it because I had revolvers in the two calibers, so I figured it made sense to have a long gun for both and why buy two guns when one would do?

I can't say I've shot it much, but when I did shoot the .410 it was pure pleasure.

I had a plan to get started reloading the .410 soon, that's on the backburner for now, but once I did get that going I was looking at getting the .410 KSG because it seems to be one of the better .410 pumps.

1 would go 28Ga a great in between: cz makes a nice one. have a s&w governor; its a hoot to shoot with defensive rounds and birdshot

At the start of the season this year, I looked in the gun safe and saw the little .410 sitting there with all its big brothers. I asked my son if he planned to use it this year, and he said that he was sticking with my old 870 (1965 model Wingmaster). So I pulled it out and found a handful of shells.
It's fun to watch him loading / unloading at the back gate of the jeep at each spot while I'm just throwing a shell in and snapping the gun closed and I'm ready.

To be fair, that's the advantage with any single shot. This particular .410 really shines in that it is so small and compact.

Yes, I still use the .410.

First shotgun at about 14 yo was a .410 Ithaca Model 66 Super Single Youth model lever break. Used to go to the Imperial Valley in Ca for dove season, NEVER failed to limit out on opening day. Full choke. so it did have some range. When I moved up to a Winchester Model 12, it was like shooting fish in a barrel.

I have a Charles Daly Model 500 hammer gun in .410. I use it to introduce bird dog puppies to the sound of a shotgun.

Well, my question is answered.

Savage makes a simple break action. Remove the barrel and slip the gun into a backpack. Might have to pick one up.
Henry make a simple break action as well. Some nice wood on these shotguns too. Maybe too heavy for what you want.

Me...I'd use the Ruger PC 9 with some snakeshot rounds....... Ultimate in packability. Im sure you don't get the shot payload...but to shoot a grouse in the noggin at short range..should work. God I wish they made a .45 PC Carbine. Or 10mm....use the same rounds as the G20 your carrying on the hip.

Got a "sale" thing in email yesterday, pondered it myself. ksg410 - looks neat. If I was going to own a 410 maybe that. Full disclosure, for $400 I would have impulse bought that in person but then I'd need another ksg at least in 12 or 20.

I bought my wife a used HR 410, one of the first guns I ever shot. She's convinced that I bought it for myself so she doesn't use it. Why is the ammo so darn expensive?

Because they can.......its low volume.

Best to reload if your a .410 or 28 gauge shooter. Shells are 30 - 40% more in cost Yet...you use less lead and powder and save a lot more money than reloading 12 and 20.

I reload 28 only and don't even mess with .410. 28 gauge patterns nicely and kills stuff not that much different than a 12 or 20.

.410....not so much.......fun to shoot and no recoil...but its tougher to master than 28. Just another shell I don't want to get into......and buy guns and stock crap for to reload.
