We have those people is the US they're called Democrats. If Peolsi told everyone to drink the punch we'd probably lose 25% of the population.

Except that it was Fla-Vor-Aid (the cheap stuff to which you had to add your own sugar), not Kool-Aid.

I have his album somewhere in my record collection.
No idea what number "Dead Body" it is though.

    R-452866-1328905419.jpeg.jpg

    "
The material on this record consists of almost the entire Jonestown "death tape" (Q42) from November 18, 1978, along with approximately 2.5 minutes of additional Jim Jones speeches and sermons at the start of side A.

Picture disc with insert released in an edition of 912 hand-numbered copies, one copy for each dead person on the mass suicide, though like other VDO discs it can be assumed that 1000 copies were pressed and 88 copies were numbered as '23'.

Some copies came with an A4 sized, 16 page xeroxed booklet containing a partially complete transcript of the recording (there are omissions in the transcript for words which are not clear or decipherable) over 14 pages, a cover page for the transcript, and a front page which is the original announcement for the release with ordering details. All pages are one-sided, and joined together by one staple in the top left corner."

True, but you know how sometimes facts get reported inaccurately and then not corrected before it's too late.
Just like the Battle of Bunker Hill was really fought at Breeds Hill, but nobody calls it the Battle of Breeds Hill.

Well, the main reason it stuck in my head is I always remember the strange little packets of really sour stuff my aunt bought for my cousin, cuz cheap. Now, I'd consider the ability to vary sugar level to your liking a feature and not a bug (though I'm still not likely to want to drink the stuff), but when single-digits in age, it seemed weird. Then came Jonestown, and it seemed even weirder.

All I remember about it is seeing on MSM all the dead, bloated bodies rotting in the tropical sun. Very shocking and burned into my memory.

I took a course on forensics for dentists several years ago, and the Air Force dental pathologist that taught the course had been one of the guys on the response team. He said the stench was overwhelming.

Interesting guy. He actually had been one of the head pathologists who worked on pretty much every major mass casualty event since the 70's.

There are at least three people around here that would tell you those were all government false-flags and that your friend, and perhaps even you, do not really exist.

I saw the PBS documentary on it several years ago. I think it's either 2 or 4 hours long. From his beginnings to the Kool-aid. WTF,O. I recall one guy talking about a "deacons meeting" where it was stressed that black men in the congregation should work harder to keep their back-side clean for the good Reverend Jones so he don't get s-word on himself.

At what point are you SO brainwashed that you think, "Yeah, we should figure out how to make that happen."

This was YEARS before he moved the congregation to crazy-town.

It was the very first time I heard a news story,
and was all like, "WTF? This makes no sense whatsoever. I can't even".

Was at college, and did not avail myself of visual media.
    Radio reports were bad enough.

Years ago I realized after eating a particularly sweet "Orange Flavored Beef"
(probably Ming Garden/Nashua), it occurred to me that you could probably
concoct a poor man's version using a rub with orange Tang as an ingredient.

However, I have never been able to find such a putative recipe,
because way, way too many people use the word adjective "tang" in BBQ items.

When I told him during the walking tour of East Providence
at the 1990 Lovecraft centennial conference
that it was my favorite work of his,
he said that he originally drew it on spec.
as the cover art for an issue of National Lampoon on that theme,
but they chose someone else's illustration. (The fools).

Watching Dyaaaaaaan Feinstein attempt another gun ban bill, I was reminded of this and the Jonestown connection to Harvey Milk. Milk's assassination and the Jonestown massacre happened within a week of each other, I think.

From that moment, the legacy of Harvey Milk was set in stone. Tireless, selfless gay man that was trying to make America great. . . .uh, again. He was so deep into using the People's Temple and buddying around with Jim Crazyeyes Jones, had he lived, he'd have been ousted and we'd still not have Harvey Milk to kick around (and crazy Sean Penn would have one less movie to star in) . . . .and we'd not have Diane Feinstein. His death was her stepping stone to higher office.

He became a martyr and WHAT he did had less importance than what he represented. :(
