590 AOW

Has anyone shot slugs out of their AOW? My son shot a 2 3/4" 5 shot group from 50 yards with a 590 AOW. He shot it 2 handed like a pistol. I find that accuracy astounding but Federal Trueball slugs seem to be very accurate in smoothbore guns. He said the blast and recoil were severe.

I have shot one. Could not tell you it really grouped, but I stayed on full sized silhouette at 25 yards. I think it was a 10 or 11" barrel with 1 ounce slugs. I have no real plans to do it again.

One box of five was enough.

I've been shooting the AOW more lately. It's quite accurate at 50 yards but groups open to a little larger than dinner plate size at 100 yards. I've been shooting reduced recoil slug loads and the recoil is somewhat reduced but still greater than a .500 S&W with full loads. For those who want to give it a try, I'll say 2 things. Hang on tight. It's exhilarating.
