"The Trace" Bloomberg's Proganda News

First of all, that article in Business Insider was from THE TRACE which is Bloomberg's propaganda news service.

The 61% polling cited is DOWN from 85% earlier this year -- so the trend is NOT good for the proponents of this referendum.

(even these polls are likely manipulated "push polls")

As Mainers start preparing for the election and learning more about this, this negative trend should continue.

The proponents would LOVE to have had this vote YESTERDAY.

Unfortunately for them, there is still a full month to go until vote time.

It may be close, but it CAN be defeated if the same coalition that defeated the bear referendum comes out and votes.

There is HUGE opposition to this in Maine.

Hillary is going to lose in the 2nd District because of this, and may even lose statewide (i.e. at least one electoral vote for Trump, and possibly as many as 3)(out of 4 electoral votes available)(that is why Trump is campaigning up in Maine).

Vote NO on 3.

Claim 61% in favor of UBC...I love ME but wtf?
As Charles C.W. Cooke wrote in an article in this month's America's First Freedom, sometimes it's all in the way the proposition is worded, or maybe in how it's presented by ardent signature-gatherers. I was never asked to sign a petition for it (maybe I was never in the right place at the "right time"), but I suspect it might have been something like what's in the last part of the second of these excerpts from Mr. Cooke's article:
“In the voting booth, a busy balloter may think he is affirming his support for a nicer world, only to read the small print three months later—after he has unknowingly broken the law. Which of course, is the point of the exercise—to fool well-meaning people into backing measures that, in the cold light of day, they wouldn’t touch with a barge pole. It is no great surprise, perhaps, that the same people who invented direct democracy also built the first Trojan horse."

Referring to legislature-initiated laws, and the checks and balances provided by scrutiny and debate in the statehouse: "In the case of a ballot initiative, precisely the opposite is the case. By design, detail, nuance and complexity are distilled down into a binary question—a question that is often dishonestly phrased and cynically presented. In consequence, what should be a debate about the law becomes a debate about general statements of principle. “Do you like children? Do you like safety? Then vote ‘Yes!’”

As he also pointed out, sometimes voters might mistakenly believe that a vote against a measure is a vote to remove procedures already in place. I'm sure the Bloomiebots thought of that possibility, too. [rolleyes]

Background Check Polls / Versions

The whole topic of background checks for guns is "ripe" for manipulation of the masses.

First, there are MANY versions of background checks for guns.

-- some are for guns SALES only, some (e.g. Maine referendum) also include virtually all gun TRANSFERS
-- some have civil penalties, some (e.g. Maine referendum) have draconian felony penalties
-- some have very liberal exceptions, some (e.g. Maine referendum) have ridiculously NARROW exceptions
-- some protect buyer / seller privacy, some (e.g. Maine referendum) CAN NOT work without a gun registry

Second, as a result, polls on this topic are pretty meaningless because unless the person being polled has a deep understanding of current gun law vs. the proposed gun law, they are "flying blind" on making an intelligent choice.

It is difficult, but the only hope is educating the voting public regarding the SPECIFIC proposal they will be voting on.

In the case of Maine, it is a draconian gun control proposal sponsored by Mayor Bloomberg. Only three other states have this VERSION of background checks (Colorado, Oregon, and Washington). In each of these states, the law is failing in that it is routinely ignored and unenforced.

Vote NO on Question 3.
