Does anyone know what the penalty is for violation of 10 V.S.A. § 4705 (b)? Before you ask, no, I don't know anyone who has violated this statute. I am just curious because it does not appear to be defined.

Full text:

10 V.S.A. § 4705 (b) said:
A person shall not carry or possess while in or on a vehicle propelled by mechanical power or drawn by a vehicle propelled by mechanical power within the right of way of a public highway a rifle or shotgun containing a loaded cartridge or shell in the chamber, mechanism, or in a magazine, or clip within a rifle or shotgun, or a muzzle-loading rifle or shotgun that has been charged with powder and projectile and the ignition system of which has been enabled by having an affixed or attached percussion cap, primer, battery, or priming powder, except as permitted under subsections (d) and (e) of this section. A person who possesses a rifle or shotgun in or on a vehicle propelled by mechanical power, or drawn by a vehicle propelled by mechanical power within a right of way of a public highway shall upon demand of an enforcement officer exhibit the firearm for examination to determine compliance with this section.

The only stuff I can find about it so far is a 1969 VT Supreme Court case in which they ruled that the law was a) constitutional and b) since the legislature did not spell out that it only applied while hunting, that it was generally applicable.

Edit: I found this:

10 V.S.A. § 4515. General penalty said:
Whoever violates or attempts to violate a provision of this part or an order or regulation of the board or of the commissioner for which no other penalty is provided shall be fined not more than $1,000.00. (Added 1961, No. 119, § 1, May 9, 1961; amended 1985, No. 92, § 11.)

That might be the answer, but IANAL and would appreciate any clarification.

Edit2: It also looks like they would suspend any hunting, fishing, etc. license(s) for at least 1 year.
