2023 MA Gun Ban: House has engrossed H.4139, waiting on Senate

I’m not a resident but I did write the rep in my cousins town where I am a member of the local Rod and Gun.
He said he voted against it but its in the senate now.

Kenny - Thanks for the email. As you know, this bill has already been debated and vote on in the House (I was one of the votes in opposition to the proposal). This issue now rests in the hands of the Massachusetts Senate, where it will need a vote and most likely will head to a conference committee after that where the final version will be negotiated.
If the Senate decides not to take it up, this becomes a dead issue. However, the Senate leadership has publicly stated that they are working on their own version of a gun bill and they intend to bring it up for action. At this point, I have encouraged people to contact members of the Senate as the fate of this bill is in their domain.
I appreciate your input and agree that this bill is nothing more than an overreach that punishes lawful gun owners. I hope common sense prevails as this proposal is considered in the Senate.

As the older generations who were fortunate to have had an education where one had to make an effort to succeed and not just show up to collect their "participation award" die off the overall intelligence and common-sense levels of the country's social cohort as a whole will rapidly and quite noticeably diminish to the point where the so-called Great American Experiment goes out with a wet fizzle as opposed to a starburst bang. An interesting future ahead........indeed......

Just who do you think it was giving out those participation trophies? The people who are now considered those old generations. It isn't millennials' fault that they received them, it's their parents for giving them. The boomer generation.

Welp, there goes the thread.

Once stoked, the ire of the Boomers will descend upon us all with great vengeance and furious anger. So, IBTL.

Excuse me? What makes you think the people in positions of power should be to blame? Are you paying attention or something?

And some people say get the f#@k out of MA and move north. This is not just happening in VT, NH is next. :(

I am afraid that as more and more people......."flat landers -from- away" as they say...... move North they unfortunately bring their liberal politics with them and that injection of left leaning opinions is starting to overcome the more centrist opinions of the original inhabitants.

Folks in Red states have been saying that they are concerned by the noted increased influx of Blue staters who claim to be looking for a better life climate while at the same time they bring the same political points of view to their new state that had made such a mess of the state they just left.

Ayotte (if elected) is poised to be much better than Sununu. And there will be no meaningful gun control in NH in my lifetime either way.
Sununu vetoed several meaningful gun control bills in your lifetime (universal background checks, waiting periods, sensitive place restrictions, etc). Ayotte is not going to be elected. I meant what I said. NH is going to flip blue and become MA 2.0.

Sorry, I'll fix it for you....

"And some people say get the f#@k out of MA and move north. This is not just happening in VT, it will soon be the same throughout New England.

When I am told that I am being overly concerned and pessimistic about the new Republic attempt to violate my Constitutional civil rights as the present anti-gun owner's legislative proposal sets forth.........my response is........

If you can keep your head
When all about you are losing theirs,
Then perhaps you haven't heard the news.

Here’s an article about the impending doom.

Then interviewed the local Fudd! an NES favorite! The rat himself!
I’ve never been there.
First why does anybody go there if that’s the way he feels?
Why is he still in the business if that’s how he feels? And where does the 2A say you can’t build your own fire arm?
I can build anything from the ground up.

20 years ago I was chatting with a girl I met through the Yahoo Singles on their messenger. I forget how it came up, but after disclosing I was a gun owner, her exact response was, "What !!?? YOU SHOULD BE ARRESTED!!!" I'm glad this didn't come up on our first and only date as I'd likely have been swatted right there in the restaurant. I look back to that every time someone brings up red flags and advise them that someone can have you disarmed for no other reason than THEY don't like guns and don't want YOU to have them.

The NH House is split, but has a 14:10 Republican Senate. The NH senate is all that stands in the way of anti-gun bills. Though I don't see that changing much if any in 2024, but a split senate could gain votes on the low-hanging fruit like UBC's and red flags. I think they'd have to flip 4 seats to get mag bans and 6 seats for AWB.

After reading this, I thought to myself that no politician would be stupid enough to say something like this (although I'm sure there probably are). So I looked to see if I could find out whether Carlson's quote was legit or not. Turns out, according to Snopes, it's not, and the quote was made up: 'If people have guns, they are pretty likely to commit a crime'

Why are they taking so long? I'm looking forward to not complying with more BS.
Be careful what you wish for. 😵‍💫

I'm in no rush. In fact, the longer this is put off, the better our chances of getting SCOTUS to crush the worst of the unconstitutional provisions before they even take effect. 🤔

Besides, I am out of money for this calendar year... and there are still a couple to-be-banned guns on the Want List. :(

If folks are wonder what the live fire requirement might look like, my brother just took one in Texas to get his License to Carry (and yes Texas is constitutional carry, but you get certain perks if you have a LTC). Here is the live fire test he had to take:

The following course of fire is required for proficiency demonstration. To successfully qualify, License to Carry Handgun applicants must complete this course with a minimum score of 70% (175 out of possible 250).

Qualified Handgun Instructors must complete this course with a minimum score of 90% (225 out of possible 250).

If any malfunctions are encountered, the shooter must work through the problem and finish the course of fire.

If rounds are held (not fired within the allotted time), the shots will be scored as misses.

All courses of fire will be scored on a standard B-27 target. The B-27 target must be 24 inches by 45 inches and may be one of four colors; black, blue, red, or green. The target shall be scored utilizing the 5, 4, 3 scoring diagram in the upper left hand corner.

Optical enhancers are not allowed. Only live ammunition may be used during training and qualification. Target marking cartridges are not permitted.

Stage 1: Twenty shots (20) will be fired from 3 yards.
A. Five (5) shots fired in a “One Shot Exercise” 2 seconds allowed for each shot.
B. Ten shots (10) fired in a “Two Shot Exercise” 3 seconds allowed for each two shot sequence.
C. Five (5) shots fired in 10 seconds

Stage 2: Twenty shots (20) will be fired from 7 yards – fired 5 stages.
A. Five (5) shots will be fired in 10 seconds

2. Three (3) shots will be fired in 6 seconds
C. Five (5) shots fired in a “One Shot Exercise” 3 seconds allowed for each shot.

If it’s constitutional carry? And I don’t mind qualifying to prove myself. Not just because the powers to be said so. What/why did he have to qualify?
