2023 MA Gun Ban: House has engrossed H.4139, waiting on Senate

Maura having ethics issues??? [laugh] Who'da thunk it. [rofl]

That much I figured out myself. ;)

What I'm wondering about is the approximate effective date based on the info above.

In other words, when do the gun shops start shutting down. 🤔

Dude. Absolutely none of us knows. I don't know why you think anyone here would have "inside information" about Senate scheduling, or why you think they would post it because you ask instead of on their own.

Take a 2024 calendar and fling a dart toward the first few months. That'll be about as accurate as anyone here can say.

Don't even have to get past the preamble of the Constitution to see where some members seem to draw the line into compromise, let alone all the way to the 2nd Amendment.

"...secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity."

I don't see "please Maura let us keep our revolvers, or tread harder mommy" anywhere in there.

If they were alive today.........

it is far easier to go after legal gun owners than it is to try to hold the criminals who committed the crimes in the first place responsible for their actions.
So what is the fix to this? Not a law. New judges?

At the governers podium, surrounded by grim-faced state troopers (carrying illegal for us lowly "civilians" high capacity magazines)
Wait, what is it today? Are they, or are they not on our side?

In the short term I doubt that a fix is actually within the grasp of society even if they did recognize that a problem existed in the first place and wanted to try to address it. The acceptable social mores of today's world have gone far beyond the basic compact the people once had with their government and with each other.

In light of the overall educational level of institutional indoctrination that is taking place at all levels of the so-called educational system as a whole it would take a concerted evert to reform the generational level of ignorance that has become the metric by which today's "leaders" measure their success in their determined race to the bottom.

Read any news reports today and you come away shaking your head muttering to yourself how in God's name could the standards of excellence and achievement become so corroded in such a relatively short time?

Graduating high school students who no longer have to be capable of reading comprehension, writing ability and basic math skills because trying to teach those skills is today considered racist in its very nature is ensuring that multiple generations of future adults will be totally incapable of contributing to both their own success as well as that of society as a whole.

As the older generations who were fortunate to have had an education where one had to make an effort to succeed and not just show up to collect their "participation award" die off the overall intelligence and common-sense levels of the country's social cohort as a whole will rapidly and quite noticeably diminish to the point where the so-called Great American Experiment goes out with a wet fizzle as opposed to a starburst bang. An interesting future ahead........indeed......

How about this for a start:

The chiefs came out in opposition. Idk if the State Police Colonel is apart of that association. State police are the kings men.

I believe most of you read the government intentions wrongly... as in ... you are overthinking it. Northern star, castle in the sky, long game... I do not believe most folks in power actually think that way. Most of us do not know what we will have for dinner let alone how things will play out in 10 years. Politicians are not wise, but for their purpose they are quite smart. Smart like knowing tomato is a fruit, but not wise enough not to put it in a fruit salad lol.

What I do believe is that politicians care about one thing - retaining status quo in the short term. This means either things staying the same (while they are in power) or making sure they continue to stay in power after the next election. Because inevitably all boils down to money. I cant think of a single politician that became poorer as they ascended the political staircase. Not a single one. So the MO of each politician is to stay in power ie on the gravy train. It is that simple.

Now, with that in mind:

Staying in power requires populism. Populism essentially is at least saying you will do what the majority of folks want. In MA for various reasons gun violence is low. I will not dive into why (different topic), but it is a fact... and folks think (wrongly) that the relative safety of MA is because of our strict gun laws. Because of that fact politicians work towards reducing gun ownership even further because they know most of MA residents think that the gun laws are the main reason for low gun violence. And if the politicians can stamp out the little left of gun ownership, the sheep will appreciate and vote for them in the next elections... and the vicious circle is complete.

And yes- I do believe that it is that simple.
This is very similar in logic to John Ringo's letter about Transnational Progressivism. I believe it holds. So much that is going on just evolved. Even if it makes some of us feel better to think it's conspiracy or a plot or something, it's really just the natural evolution of elements in society.

So I live in Ct and have a non resident LTC but belong to a range in Ma. I live on the border. If this passes I will lose my non resident ltc ?

yup, but I doubt this would survive a 2a challenge. If it passes I'll be applying just so they can deny and give me standing to file.

I don't like that the Chiefs are talking with Velis, now they will carve themselves out of this mess instead of having a unanimous vote against the whole bill.
What about GOAL? Jim stated they would not submit any amendments on the House bill because it is unfix-able. How are they approaching the Senate bill?

More like the corrupt Sheriff of Nottingham.
"Engaged in the business of transferring monies" is what made me laugh. The silly pricks who penned this bill still have no idea that armored car companies and their armed employees are already covered interstate by federal law and have been for many years?

Jim is hopefully carefully educating the senate to craft something that will ping-pong in committee trying to get the differences worked out.
That delay would necessarily push out the statutory enactment dates in the bill since even the Mass Tyrants club (legislature) knows that they would be immediately batch slapped by SCOTUS for not having the systems in place to allows for legal compliance before creating felons of lawful gun owners.

Hopefully Goal is doing something like this with the Senate

Back in the 1970s New York City did not recognize what was then called Personal Protection Permits issued in the Republic to uniformed armored car employees who drove in an armored unit from this area to the City. The City also did not recognize New York State permits issued to state residents so I guess not granting reciprocity to out of state permits should not surprise one.

The result of this state of affair was that the out of state crew members refused to dismount from the armored units if they had to interact with members of the NYPD due to their concern of being arrested for illegal gun possession and all the legal bullshit that would entail.

The crew members would conduct any required conversations with the NYPD while safely locked behind the armored door thru the small gun port on the driver's side door. Needless to say........the NYPD did not appreciate this means of communication and there were some rather humorous and spirited discussions that took place between the parties involved.

I believe that the City still does not recognize NY state licenses, but I don't know if the standoff with out of state armored crews still exists these days.

New York City.........putting the fun back into dysfunctional......

When Washington DC banned handguns, they had to swear in all of the Brinks guys as peace officers so they could legally carry on the job.

I laughed when I read this. Once again politicians who know absolutely nothing at all about guns in general much less carrying them out in public pass feel good legislation without having a clue how these laws will actually work out in the wild.

Just another example that we really do need a certified lifeguard in attendance at all times at the gene pool.

Personally, I believe that the liberal politicians' gene pool needs a healthy dose of chlorine!

Well.......at least the politicians have not yet outlawed this choice as a tool for self-defense.........but the day is still young I suppose.........

In MA that’s a deadly weapon and you’d be charged accordingly. Unless you are black, illegal, trans, or registered Democrat.

In any defense in answer to this charge would you pick one from column A and one from column B like you do in a Chinese restaurant..........asking for an interested friend.........

Yes, the more check boxes the better your chances for a buried story and a walk or slap on the wrist is how it seems to work.

As an old man brought up in the 1950s and 60s..........back in a time when the idea and basic definition of what was right and what was wrong was not as confusing and in dispute as those concepts appear to have become today.........in a legal defense of any behavior that I chose to undertake my defense today would rest upon my chosen pronouns of.........I and MY.

I.........have Constitutional civil rights that are a bedrock part of the foundation that this country was initially built upon.

MY.......civil rights are not subject to a political redefinition nor revocation by legislators attempting to pander to the left wing of their constituency at the expense of the Constitution itself.

These civil rights remain mine until such time as a mirror placed beneath my nose no longer fogs up.

A friend of mine in a Free state sent me a link to this song that really seemed to sum up the current fight the 2-A community is presently engaged in trying to save our Constitutional civil rights here in the Republic from the professional grade arrogance of ignorance that is alive and well in Boston.

I saw him at Indian Ranch. He played that song along with some pretty good commentary…
