2016 Fishing/Ice Fishing Thread

Best striped bass fishing in a long time. Reeled in these slobs this morning. 44" and a 42". Haven't weighed them yet but the 44" is at least 30 pounds. They were crushing the live mackerel. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1474815109.184695.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1474815119.521919.jpg

The thing with tuna fishing, when you go all day and don't get a bite you are usually treated to some beautiful scenery

A day on the water or in the woods beats a day at work any time. If you hook or shoot something for the dinner table, it's a bonus. I can't wait for waterfowl/ upland game.

This. I've missed more on fish than I did last year. One more fishing trip for me, I think, then pivoting to hunting until after spring Turkey.

Not when you're doing it to pay the bills... Tuna fishing g is the only fishery I can tolerate going home with no fish...

Finally! Tiny compared to CME's fish but I'll take these all day as a recreational fish. We got this one yesterday on stand up spinning gear, a Stella 10K reel and Van Staal rod on a plug when running and gunning to breaking fish. 51" 75# . Must be the lucky NES hat and Glock t shirt!

Nice! I bet you were sore after that battle. I remember fighting my first tuna (~150lbs) on a spinning gear (Penn 950). It wasn't fun considering it took 8.5 hours lol.

Looks like fall stocking is underway. Went out to the Westfield river for my son's 5th birthday. Tied into a school of rainbows, none smaller than 12 inches, most 14 inches. We tried catch and release, but they were absolutely crushing our lures and taking them deep. We limited out in 30 minutes.
Good day, indeed.

Tell no one. Get your rods.

I have some questions about ice fishing in NH:

I'd like to do some ice fishing this winter on three lakes - Umbagog, Newfound and Squam. Maybe Winnipesaukee however I'm thinking it's going to be rather windy in winter. Umbagog seems to be pretty good with large amounts of native brookies and large pikes. How are the other two?

Also, it seems you can fish Umbagog with either a NH or a Maine license. This is true, right?

Anyone willing to introduce me to ice fishing when the ice thickens up? Always wanted to give it a shot, but never had anyone to go with.
