1911s in MA

With all the crap lately, shops are cautious. I ran in to issues recently for a transfer of a model 70 which went out of production in 1983.

I have heard that this is a factory replacement part because the procedure is to try a few from the bins until one fit nicely.

Compare this to the traditional extractor where you can get replacements from dozens of vendors without any "send in the gun" nonsense, and you can even keep a spare in your range bag.

I brought my broken S&W extractor to Greg and it took him 2 minutes to drop a new one in, and it works great. I asked him if there was fitting involved and he just chuckled and said no. Not sure why S&W keeps such tight control of these simple parts.
