So i am out on the range firing a few new Smith and Wessons and my PPK. Now I can hit an 8 1/2 x 11 paper, that's about it.

So I been working on this old gun I got on the Internet about a year ago. Cost me $100 on auction arms. Its a Star Model B 9mm (cheap 1911 knock off used during WWII made in Spain). After finding parts on the Internet that total about $30, I finally got it working perfectly.

With this gun, I can hit anything. Its the best shooting handgun I have ever fired. Now I don't own a 1911, but I would think I got high accuracy because its based on the 1911. My other $700 hand guns just look good.

Star firearms are NOT cheap knockoffs. They are pretty well made firearms. A little heavy, but that just makes them last longer. Stars haven't been imported in quite some time, but you can still get good condition shooters.

I think you got a REALLY good deal as most of the Stars I've seen that are in shootable condition have been about $400.

Good Job!

Picking up guns that are not working can be a good way to get nice shooters cheap. I picked up my NAA mini revolver in that manner. It was in sorry shape, but NAA has a lifetime warrenty, so I shipped it off to them and got back what looked and worked like a brand new pistol. All I had to pay for was $25 for the gun, $18 in shipping (freaking next day) and $15 for a new set of grips.

Thanks. The only minor problem is that it uses the "thin lipped" magazine. Hard to find.

Not a cheap knockoff? I must stop listening to my local gun shop. When I showed them it they said I got ripped off.

Did they immediately offer to "take it off your hands"?

A lot of Star models used Mecgar Magazines. Contact the company and you might find the part still in their catalog. Also visit gun shows. Star Mags are found a lot in those "Box 'o Mags" offerings. Picked up two for my Star Firestar .40 in that way (still in the factory package)

The extractor flew out when my daughter first fired it. After I replaced that can cleaned it up more, fires perfecto.
