I've got an opportunity to buy a 1911. The seller says its a colt. Here's my concern and I can't find info on net. It's got a s/s colt mark IV series 80 slide, the frame is aluminum grey and is marked Springfield and made in Brazil. I asked seller about this and he says its a colt. My meager knowledge lends me to believe its not. But a pieced together 1911. Who is right? Thanks, DJ

It sounds like a gun someone pieced together. It's not a big deal, but it's NOT a colt. I don't think Springfield made anything in Brazil, but I could be wrong.

The Springfield Armory of Illinois has had 1911 frames made in Brazil, then assembled in the USA. It's not a Colt-made gun, but it's the same design as the original Colt of 1911.

The lower(frame) is the gun. Regardless as to what slide is on top of it.
Could it be a Taurus, if the lower is marked Brazil?
