I just finished reading the book "Missing 411". I was wondering if anyone has read the book, and what they thought?

Yes I have read them all. The newest book deals with missing hunters. The author also has a DVD coming out later in the year. Check the website canammissing.com.
If you spend anytime in the woods, you will never look things the same after reading these books!

Just watched the author speaking on YouTube....spooky stuff. Ordered a copy of his book covering the eastern US.

This series of books is absolutely intriguing.. I was mere miles away from the New Mexico cluster last year, so now Im glad I didnt go missing! Ill be ordering all of the other books from his site soon. Its impossible to find them used or through other sellers, though.

I also spent some time in a cluster area, and did not know it at the time. Now I never go into the woods alone. When I do go into the woods I always have my dog and my friend tucked into my belt! The books are well worth reading.
I think you will find the best price is buying them direct.

I watched the movie last night. It was a little confusing at first. They kept coming back to the first case that was covered at the start of the movie. My guess is that the movie was done this way to keep illuminating the common points for all the cases Missing 411 investigates. That said, the movie is a quality work. Looking at the terrain where a 3 year old went missing, and later found up on a mountain, as opposed to reading about it, makes a big difference. And, I am not sure I could climb that mountain!
Yes, I would also conclude that there is something very strange going on out there.

Did the movie include the story of the college girl that went missing in NH a few years ago? It was in the winter and I think she was traveling from Mass to Vermont. Her car slid on the ice and had a minor accident, and she vanished without a trace.

What do you think the problem/cause is?

I watched some of his Missing 411 videos on YouTube but I never formed a clear impression of what he though the cause was. Is any explanation required beyond people getting lost, accidents and animals, etc?

The recent badger discovery helps explain some of the missing bodies too, I think. Badgers are burying the corpses of large animals to create a private food supply.

This type of book is right up my alley. I usually get books like this on Amazon for two or three bucks but not these. 25 bucks a book is retail price. I did buy the first two to see if they're worth it. Maybe if some of us buy the others we could sell them to one another or trade as we finish them. That would sure alleviate the burden of spending 150 bucks for all the books and another chunk of change if you want to see the movie.

If the people that are selling his book is any indication on who he thinks might be the cause, is it's pretty evident.

Not to me. I got a whiff of Bigfoot and a pinch of falling into the 5th dimension from the stuff I watched.

I'd guess it's more like the odd serial killer, falling down mineshafts and eaten by animals.

I read 2 bio's on the guy. One on Amazon the other I found on a Squach site.

The author is full blown in the tank for the Squach. I'll read the first 2 books and rethink my current opinion.

The author only looks at a narrow set of circumstances for the missing people. If there is any chance of a crime or animal attack, he will not work the case. The movie did not include the case of the missing girl in NH. Speaking for myself, I am not sure how the people go missing. It seems to occur world wide.
The latest book on missing hunters has an interesting report at the end of the book. There is a YouTube video where the author talks about this report. I recall reading about one case where a person went missing at the time a UFO was sighted. Perhaps a coincidence?

From all of the interviews I have listened to , the author steers clear of giving any opinion on what may be happening. He does this on purpose. He only presents the facts of the cases he presents, and the reader is supposed to try and make their own opinions. Yes, he has a certain criteria for the cases he investigates. Otherwise he would just be investigating every single missing persons case everywhere on the planet. I have read the first 5 books, and just need to order book #6 which is about hunters. As we all know, hunters are some of the most trained and knowledgeable people who go into the woods. They are normally prepared, armed and able to survive outside. Some of the other books also include cases about missing hunters, camps found perfectly intact, rifle leaning against a tree. In one instance a rifle was found broken in half. Personally, I dont get the sense that the author is 100% on the bigfoot bandwagon, even though he has spent time studying folkore and living with the Hopi indians gathering stories about their encounters with the supposed biped. No matter what the cause of these disappearances, something extremely weird is happening. Even if you assume a percentage of people willfully disappeared, and another percentage were taken by animals (no kill scenes ever found), and still another percentage of people who just fell off a cliff, there is still a very large percentage of people who are missing under very strange circumstances.

If you read the Missing 411 book on hunters, read the last case about the bow hunter in the tree stand carefully. The author does not say this is the cause of the missing, he only reports the case. It made my skin crawl reading it. I came away with the idea there are things on this Earth we humans do not know about, and are much larger than ourselves.

Is that really possible? I like a conspiracy theory as much as anyone but the idea there are unknown populations of large....creatures....aliens, whatever....in the USA is hard to swallow.

I could be persuaded but it seems likely to me that Paulides has built a franchise of what amount to modern day ghost stories around a statistically tiny number of incidents - millions of hunters and a handful of disappearances.

But this stuff is fascinating so if anyone has a clear idea of what Paulides is implying please lay it out there.

Edit: been clicking around on Reddit and there are a number of stories of sightings of red-eyed, optically cloaked, telepathic tree people with mind control abilities.

Anyone seen anything like that?

@mibro - My personal opinion is that there are portals or vortexes into alternate layers of existance.. thats just my personal opinion based on the sheer weirdness of some of these disappearances. The first 5 books have approximately 1200 cases of really strange disappearances. I would be willing to lend out my books as long as you guarantee to mail them back! Ill even include an envelope and mailer!! I got my brother reading the first installment so once I get it back, let me know if you are interested. I do think that Paulides is a little bit greedy with pricing, and even more so with shipping.. However the subject intrigues me so its worth it.

@nikos - I agree with you that something is out there that our civilization knows nothing about.. I heard about the last case, listened to many interviews about it. Im looking forward to reading the Hunters. And getting the movie!!

I'm open to the possibility that something really strange is happening but our current understanding of our world leaves absolutely no room for portals or anything like that. But there are so many stories, as you say, where it's hard to come up with an explanation other than something supernatural.

Thanks for your offer about the books but I have enough trouble defending against zombies after immersing myself in TWD. As rational as you think you are, immersing yourself in these ideas can alter your perception of danger.

One of the possibilities, I think, for Missing 411 is that it's some kind of psyop. The Agenda 21 folks want to reduce the number of people running around in the back country and these stories will make a lot of people think twice about leaving the cities for our National Parks.

I found this story while clicking around yesterday. Real or someone having some fun with creative writing? Either way you'll like it.

"This account is from Larry Kelm whom I personally spoke with during a BFRO (Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization) field trip in Ruidoso, NM.

Quote: “In the fall of 1980 I ran a small business as a construction contractor in Eugene, Oregon. During the slow times and in-between jobs I would don my backpack and hiking boots and disappear into the mountains for weeks at a time enjoying the peaceful solitude of long hikes. At that time I was single and didn’t answer to anyone so I was free to do what I wanted when I wanted. On the trip in question I decided to hike the old Mollala Indian trail that followed the ridge tops from Saddle Blanket Mountain to Oakridge, one of the Native American’s favorite summer camps and trading centers. It was a beautiful August day, two days into the hike (I expected to be gone about two weeks), when literally out of the blue the most terrifying thing that ever happened to me in my life occurred. It would change my perspective of reality forever.

“I was walking along the trail enjoying the strong breeze and bright sunshine when, in the middle of a step, everything around me started to turn gray and blurry. The only way I can describe it was as if suddenly I was looking through someone else’s prescription sunglasses. I finished the step and started another. Every inch I moved forward the darkness increased and the gray blurring turned into a jumble of shapes that made no sense. I then seemed to pass a barrier and everything started to return back into focus when my foot reached the ground on the second step everything around me had changed. Day had turned into night and there was no wind. All the Douglas Fir and pine trees had been replaced with thick jungle-like growth. The cool thin mountain air was replaced with humid thick air. There were no stars in the sky, but there was a diffused light that let me see everything clearly, however I couldn’t tell what the light source was.

“As often happens when the human body receives a massive dose of adrenaline the entire incident appeared like it was in slow motion and even though I was only there for a second or two I had time to observe my surroundings. The silence was broken by [a] continuous high pitched keening sound, and I was nearly overwhelmed with a sense of fear and danger. My momentum caused me to take one more step before stopping in my tracks.

“It was at this point, I heard a whispered "Gotcha" over my right shoulder. I couldn’t tell if I heard it with my ears or inside my head. The word wasn’t directed at me but something said the word quietly to itself. I was so terrified I actually felt my heart stop for a moment. That whispered word is what saved me. I opened my mouth and gasped in a huge gush of thick air and recoiled backward in the same footsteps I had entered wherever I was. As I threw myself backward, I looked over my right shoulder. A dark colored hairy right hand and arm was reaching for my throat over my shoulder. The hand had pale ivory spade-shaped fingernails. The nails looked clean and almost had a manicured look to them. The thumb was placed lower (towards the wrist) on the hand than a human’s is. Both hand and arm were thin and powerful looking and both were covered with thick coarse black hair.

“I got a good look at it because the thumbnail grazed my neck (it did not break the skin) as I moved backwards. As I continued backwards, the hand clutched where my neck had been a split second before and it seemed to fade off into the distance as I returned through the Portal.

“I took two more steps backwards and everything reversed itself from what had just happened. The world around me became lighter, the fir and pines gradually came back into view and by the third step I was back on Saddle Blanket Mountain.

“I continued to move backwards in terror, and as I did, I observed that where I had just come from was a shimmering oval patch of air about the size of a large door. The woods behind it looked like it was under water. By the fifth backward step the shimmering area seemed to just evaporate and everything was back to normal. By then my lungs had nearly burst from the volume of air I had inhaled during the huge gasp I had just taken. My body felt like it was on fire from the adrenaline surge. I spun around and ran back down the trail as fast as my legs could carry me, and didn’t stop until I reached my truck. I was nearly two days getting to that place and about three hours getting back.

“On my way home I was absolutely horrified at the thought of what would happen if I were to drive my truck into something like that. It had been a trap pure and simple. Whatever it was that tried to kill me somehow kept the Portal hidden from me on the way in, and I didn’t actually see it until I was back out again. I had terrible nightmares for years, and still haven’t come to grips with what happened. My fingers are trembling and the hair is standing up on the nape of my neck as I write this.”

There is a very similar story in one of the Missing books. I think it occurred in France, I can't recall which edition.
Stay safe in the woods my friends!

I don't know anything about this guy or his books, but I am certain that our current understanding of the world is incomplete. And the supernatural is just a way of explaining what we don't understand. If you read a bit into quantum mechanics you will find a lot of really smart people who believe things that are very different than what we were taught. I'm not intelligent enough to wrap my head around it completely. But to me that is just further evidence of why we were never taught it. A lot of it is pretty scary stuff. These links just scratch the surface of some of the topics that are very interesting to me.

Yeah, I've been certain we're all living in a simulation since the "8" key stopped working on my laptop. I've been tracking the need to type the number "8" since then and it's way, way more than 10% of all numbers so I know the Matrix is messing with me.

It's also amazing that the Earth is at the center of the universe according to the cosmic microwave background. No weirdness there.

The problem with Missing 411 and the "Portal" theory is now we're talking about malicious entities abducting people. Magic Sasquatch, aliens, demons let into our universe by the Large Hadron Collider.

I dunno, it's just a bit hard to swallow. Tell you what though, if I were alone in the back country I'd be thinking about this stuff for sure.

For those that are interested in additional reading, I would suggest the book, Into Nowhere, by Thomas Spriggs. Mr. Spriggs breaks the phenomenon into a "regional series of outbreaks with definable characteristics."

If anyone is interested, the video is now available for "on demand" viewing. Go to canammissing.com. Then go to "current events", where there is a link.

I changed my mind about this series. I still find the content interesting, however the movie was a complete flop. An online search of the author will reveal many negative comments, pissed off fans, and allegations of fraud from when he was employed as a detective. Some of the cases are extremely weird, but I would have to research them myself and see if the facts actually match what is written in the books.
