...

Unless this has been refinished , you've got a heck of a nice piece there. grips are right , they were made between 1917 - 1919 , 175,000 mfg. . looks to be in about 98 % . How's the other side look ? My 3 year old blue book says $1,675 for 98% and $1,450 for 95 % . Pricing / value is always what the market will bear. Awesome shape on this one.

I know someone who'll be willing to give you a grand right now for it . Me !

Grips look original to me. Lanyard appears to be missing. Nice revolver my friend. Color me jealous.

ETA Hankster beat me here.

You can take off the grips and see if they are numbered to the gun, usually penciled on the back of the grip. But they look like the correct smooth grips. Lanyard ring looks to have been removed, that'll ding collector value. The finish does look pretty good - if its original. Many were pretty banged up during use, or arsenal refurbed to a parkerized finish for WWII where they were issued to post offices and MPs etc. Oh yeah, get some moon clips and shot the hell out of it! (you may want to get a grip adapter, unless you have gorilla hands - M1917s are big)

More info.....

Thanks for the info guys... The other side is just as nice, I was told the finish is original. I have two moon clips which came with it, and believe the lanyard is in the box.

Does the 325xx serial number indicate that it was made in 1918?

Unfortunately, I swore to the past owner that I would not sell it. He also gave me a mint Mauser 6.35mm Model WTPH, with original box and owners manual. It's one of those pocket pistols. Says made in Germany, and finish is about 85%. Also been sitting for 30 years....

A really great gun...always wanted one, had to settle for a repro S&W M1917...wish I had the genuine article in either Colt or S&W or both.

If you are going to shoot it, I would definitely recommend getting a Tyler T Grip unless you have very large hands.

Small world, I just picked on up too. Except mine is newer and looks like it got dragged through a stone pile.

1937 I was told it was made for the Brazilian government.

I was just given a 1917 US ARMY MODEL DA 45. Finish is excellent, and it appears to have been sitting in a box for the past 40 years +.

The serial number is 325xx. Under the barrel says "United States Property".

Can any of you experts give me more info as to how old this gun is based on serial number? Are the grips original?

Also, an approximate value would be appreciated....

Thanks guys!

Did you post this on the S&W forum? I was going to post a link but didn't want to if not wanted.

Is this revolver missing the Brazilian crest ? You sure it's a 1937 ?

The gun is so beat up that I can only see that there is a very faint outline of a stamping. Looks like a 5 point start with a circle or medallion. The 1937 I can clearly read. What did the Brazilian crest look like?

I'll try to get a better pic.
Also I shot her for the 1st time Thr. night. Beat to crap, bent ejector rod and a long clunky pull....it's shoots like a lazer beam.[grin]

Smith web site....

Negative, I did not have a chance to post on the Smith forum... Please feel free to post a link in my absence.
Thanks
