"Fast And Furious/Gunwalker" mega-thread... was: ATF director expected to resign...

Well now it appears that the State Department is in competition wit the ATF (and FBI) for arming the the drug gangs in Mexico,while the ATF was arming the Sinaloas,the state dept was suppling the Zetas with "anti-aircraft weapons and hand grenades from the Vietnam War era,grenade launchers, assault rifles, handguns and military gear including night-vision goggles and body armor.";

http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/worse-than-gunwalker-state-dept-allegedly-sold-guns-to-zetas/

At The Truth About Guns, Brad Kozak opines:

The ATF was not the only ones running guns to Mexico. Apparently the State Department was playing, too. And then consider this angle — was the State Department competing with the ATF for the hearts and minds of the Mexican drug trade?

Just to keep this going,both Issa and Grassley have gone on record that there was criminal activity in the Obama administration.

http://americaswatchtower.com/2011/...een-involved-in-criminal-activity/#more-22459

"Eric Holder has already testified in front of the Congress that he knew nothing about this botched operation until it became public knowledge, yet we have video proof that Eric Holder knew about Operation Gunrunner from its inception, so right there Eric Holder is guilty of perjury and lying to the Congress under oath; even in the unlikely and unbelievable event that Eric Holder did not know about Operation Gunrunner and did not engage in “criminal activity” before his testimony he certainly has engaged in criminal activity when he testified before the Congress that he knew nothing about this operation when he clearly did. Just ask Scooter Libby how well it goes when you give false or misleading statements during an investigation."

Looks like next Tuesday should bring some more info;

"It appears as if Darrell Issa and Chuck Grassley are not going to let up in the near future; the Oversight Committee has scheduled a second round of hearings for next Tuesday and the noose is tightening around Eric Holder’s neck (am I still allowed to use that phrase?) and it shows no signs of loosening any time soon."

While I have no doubt that Holder knew about Fast & Furious (and lied to Congress), that blog you linked to is confusing Project Gunrunner with Operation Fast & Furious. Holder never said he wasn't aware of Gunrunner, he said he was unaware of Fast and Furious.

If ever there was a place for the federal government to propose some cutbacks right about now, this would be a good starting point. Can someone send Boehner a MEMO?

Much More than a Third Rate Burglary

And if government officials are willing to lie and obfuscate, as I believe Agent Newell and others most likely have, to a congressional investigating committee; and if the Justice Department is willing to stonewall document subpoenas and refuse to produce subpoenaed witnesses, this administration is in full Watergate mode. What conclusion is to be drawn from their behavior other than that there are much bigger fish to be caught in Issa's net than a few overeager field operatives?

Are the big fish of the Obama administration ignoring the basic lesson of Watergate -- that it's the cover-up, not the crime, that can bring down a president? But then, in the present situation, we have illegal arms-smuggling, apparently to further a domestic political gun control agenda, which may have resulted in the deaths of Mexican citizens and two United States federal officers. Now that is a crime, a real and true crime, and most certainly a much more serious crime than a third-rate burglary.

So when do Issa and Grassly bring out the ropes?

Again, has or will the families and partners or coworkers of the deceased testify in any of this?

"Failed Upward"
How about, "put in a position to cover up their own malfeasance":

Story said:
William G. McMahon became "deputy assistant director of the ATF's Office of Professional Responsibility and Security Operations — the division that investigates misconduct by employees and other problems."

I have no clue if this site/story is legit,it does however make some plausable points "Holder is the Obama firewall"
Note: language is a bit spicey

"Finally you are asking the right questions! And that is EXACTLY what the Obama machine is already attempting to prepare for – Holder’s replacement. Issa and others are watching this stuff right now, with a strong assist from a certain Democrat senator. The problem is, there will be a gap between the protection Eric Holder provides now, and the protection his replacement could provide. Information can then be uncovered that is currently tucked away behind the cloak of the Obama Department of Justice. When Holder is on his way out, the truth is gonna move in. We just need that window of opportunity to make it happen. It’s gonna happen. Just give it a bit more time"

And now it appears that Eric Holder is requesting documents related to Kenneth Melson’s testimony before the Oversight Committee !
This site by the way is a good one,

http://americaswatchtower.com/2011/...uests-documents-from-darrell-issa/#more-22921

"Eric Holder tried to silence Kenneth Melson and he tried to control Kenneth Melson’s testimony but he was unable to do so and now it appears as if he is trying to gain access to Melson’s testimony in an attempt to coordinate his story moving forward and he is doing it under the guise of helping an “independent” investigation which suddenly doesn’t seem so independent after all.

We also recently learned that three of the supervisors who were directly involved in the deadly scandal were promoted and it seems to me that the only realistic reason for these promotions in the midst of this investigation that this was a payoff for their silence on the scandal moving forward.

Now that Eric Holder believes the ATF has bought the silence of these three supervisors he needs to gain access to Kenneth Melson’s testimony in case he is ever called in front of Darrell Issa’s Oversight Committee and he actually thought that Darrell Issa was stupid enough to fall for this tactic.

There is no doubt in my mind that Eric Holder was behind Operation Gunrunner from the very beginning and he is running scared because the walls are closing in around him; this appears to be a desperate act from a desperate man who is clinging onto his position by a thread. The more he tries to cover this up the deeper he gets and if his involvement in the scandal wasn’t bad enough to land him behind bars his attempts at covering it up should be."

The good.
Kenneth Melson, acting ATF chief, steps down

The bad.
Kenneth Melson, the bureau’s acting director, on Wednesday will move to the Office of Legal Policy, where he will be a senior adviser on forensic science, the department said, without making reference to the failed gun-tracking operation that is alleged to have ultimately put guns into the hands of criminals.
