11 Year Old Charged In Friend's Death

An 11-year-old East Brunswick boy was charged today with aggravated assault and aggravated manslaughter in the June 26 shooting death of his 12-year-old friend.
Authorities said the the juvenile put a loaded handgun almost directly in the face of his 12-year-old friend and shot him in the eye.
The accused shooter's father, Michael Gierriero, 46, and grandmother, Josephine Guerriero, 72, were also charged with endangering the welfare of children for keeping 98 firearms in their East Brunswick house, including 21 handguns, five of which were loaded.
The 11-year-oldh, who authorities identified only as MG, took one handgun from his father's closet and the pointed the weapon at his friend, Alexander Khoudiakov, holding the weapon 6 to 12 inches from the victim's face, and then pulled the trigger, mistakenly believing the gun was unloaded, Kaplan said.
He said investigators discounted the shooters claim that the weapon accidentally discharged.
"This account does not conform to the crime scene evidence," Kaplan said.
A lawyer for MG has said that he was showing the gun to Alex and another friend when Alex tried to grab the gun and it went off.
MG was arraigned today in Family Court in New Brunswick and is being held at the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center. His name is being withheld by The Star-Ledger.
