So there are a few other stock threads for the 10/22. The main thread that covers stock suggestions for the 10/22 is geared more towards Competition shooting.

I currently have two 10/22's. My mostly stock 10/22, BX trigger tech-sights and bolt hold, is sitting in a Magpul x22 chassis. Which I'm a huge fan of it. It's a very comfortable stock to shoot off of. I get some customization for fit.

My other 10/22 is fairly tricked out. not a single stock part, full build, Volquartsen , Clark custom, etc, is using a promag Target stock. It's an ok stock, I'm not a fan of it. I don't shoot off a tri-pod which I think would make this a better fit. I've been primarily using a sling for target shooting.

I was thinking of moving my current Magpul stock, black, and throw it on the built 10/22 and dump the promag stock. But now I need another stock for the iron sight 10/22. Figured I would grab another Magpul, flat earth, stock for that, but before I do that. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a comfortable stock for the 10/22 for shooting with a sling.

I'm heading back to an Appleseed event next month, I've already qualified as 'Rifleman' with the built rifle, yes it's scoped. I used the tech sights on day 1, but then switched to the scoped build on the second day. I got Rifleman with the Scope, but next month I only want to use the Tech sights. I want to get Rifleman again, but with the iron sights this time.

Rugers Stock that came with the 10/22 is fine, but I like the rise on the Magpul, lines my eyes up much better with the sights. The adjustability is worth it.

Any recommendations? What are you using for a stock, if your sling firing it?

I have not slinged up and given it try yet but I will be soon. i have the titan stock.

I have the same stock as mac1911. The Victor Titan + kidd supplied action/barrel/trigger. Stiff and it has an aluminum bedding plate + tang. The stiffness really helps if you're cranking on the sling. Awesome set-up for a 22lr. There are some check rest risers available, too.

I did modify the stock slightly for a different sling mounting location but that's mostly due to preference.

The Titan Stock looks great. Looks to be in the same vein as the Magpul, stronger, but one thing that makes me hesitant, the Cheek rest. It looks as if it's literally just drilling a hole, tap the plastic with a screw. They could have done some sort of insert for the rest. If the plastic strips then that's kind of $160+ waste of money.

Definitely on my list of alternatives. I might not even need the cheek rest on the iron-sight option, so there's that, but i feel like this stock would be better served on the scoped build.

Watching some youtube videos and reading on the Titan. There seems to be some flex on the front of the stock. Have you gentlemen seen anything with flex with the front. This would be an issue with using a sling. This guy seems to believe the x22 is stiffer at the front. There are obviously more benefits for the Titan over the x22, but was just curious about your experiences.

There is some flex but much less than each of the other solutions I've tried ... also plastic composites. I have not tried a wood stock.

The Titan is a floating design with a bedding block and tang. The forearm flex I've experienced was not sufficient to cause contact with the barrel and it had no noticeable effect on the accuracy or precision. I've really cranked on the sling for similar events such as Appleseed and haven't experienced an unexpected change in the POA as a result. Though, I did move the sling mounting point away from the muzzle a bit.

This is one thing that was a disappointment in looking for a stock for my 10/22
I was not finding a stock with decent adjustable comb . I was planning on installing a Graco 870 comb kit on this titan . Just have not got around to it.
I hate the drill through screw on combs.
With my low rings and 40mm scope the comb is high enough.

I Use the hogue thumbhole stock.
Its comfortable, and similarly budget friendly to the pro mag. Multiple color options.

I like the forend on that stock. It looks comfortable. I've used a similar fixed comb, on an older promag, and I still needed more height to line up properly, which is why I grabbed the promag deluxe target. I need a stock that either has built-in adjustability for the comb or the ability to manually increase/decrease height via inserts.

Hope you find something you like.

hey, so as I posted in another thread, I spent the weekend at the Appleseed event. Had a great time. I used my Magpul all weekend, but I was able to talk to a couple of people about different stocks. I was able to handle a Boyd At-one. it was nice. very light. It's shooting up to the top of my list. However, someone mentioned the KRG Bravo, which looks great. looks like it might be a little bulky for firing with the sling. I like the idea of the all-aluminum insert for rigidity.

Well after reading up on the KRG bravo, I started going down a rabbit hole and found the Oryx which is made by MDT, actually its a sub brand of MDT. Then I found the Woox Exactus and the Furiosa.

So I have to ask, how much is too much for a 10/22 stock??????? At this point, I don't think I could justify a Furiosa, the Exactus ehhhh no, I might be down for the Oryx, it's at what I might consider the top end, but the Bravo I think is reasonable.

The problem is any of them good with a sling. I'll be happy to throw a bi-pod on any of them, but its way more fun to shoot from different stances with a sling.

Damn, there are some nice looking stocks in there. The Exactus and the Furiosa, in particular. Might have a Cadillac build in the future.

What do you want to optimize?
Ergonomic stocks for shooting standing up with a sling are very different from precision shooting chassis like xlr or furiosa.
As how much too much - a chassis usually costs same as action with barrel. A $100 barrel in a $1000 chassis is not very sensible.

I get that, I've been looking more for shooting from a sling. Not really into bench rest shooting. Just not sure what to look at.

These chassis's are more gun porn, but I do kind of like the Oryx as a possibility.

The price question, was more a thought on what people budget for a stock. I have a fair amount into the action on one of my builds, so the Oryx or Exactus are in line for pricing. But even still don't think I can justify the price of the Exactus on a 10/22 build. Haha. But damn the Exactus and furiosa look damn good.

Just as a sample of what the hand held optimized chassis looks like -

Savage and anschutz are 2 best manufacturers for that sort of stuff. Look up what they offer in a more realistic price segment that may fit Ruger.

My 10/22 sits snugly in the Magpul X-22 stock with the ,75” cheek riser. I love it. My son and I are taking it, actually taking an identical pair, to an Appleseed very soon.
I love my x22 stock. I used it to great success this past weekend at the Appleseed I attended. My only issue with it is the .25 riser is just too short for my iron sights, but the .5 riser is way to high. I need some more adjustability with the comb height.

I'm assuming your running a scope with the .75 riser.

However, I'm not currently looking to replace the Magpul. If I do replace the Magpul it will probably be the victor titan22.

I'm looking to replace my promag Target stock.

By the way, have fun at the Appleseed. I have so much fun at the events. It's a great weekend.

If you haven't already done so, get the USGI cotton sling. There is no substitute. I've tried a couple other slings and hands down it's the one to use.

carboard and ductape make a quick comb adjuster.
See I wonder just who they design these stocks for.....you need more hieght for irons with the X22 , really wtf. Typical 10/22 BS fits no one.

Well here's an update to my Chassis hunt. I ended up with an Oryx chassis. I picked it up on Black Friday for $299 as a factory second. I couldn't find anything wrong with it.

Well, it's been a rough winter and I haven't been able to get out to the range much. So I was finally able to get there today. Here's my range report on the Oryx.

I will not be using this with a sling at an Appleseed event. The ergonomics of it were never meant for sling shooting in an event like Appleseed. I spent several hours at the range messing with the sling. moving it forward and back on the rail. Loosing and tighten it at different points and it was just awkward the entire time. The sling never held its position on my arm, the grip dug into my support arm while in prone, and it's heavy. Shooting standing up was difficult. I got the chassis early on and after messing with the adjustable comb, the adjustment knobs were a must. Stock you use an allen wrench. When getting the comb adjustment right the knobs were just easier. I also swapped out the ODG panels for the FDE

I swapped out the grip shown in the picture for the standard grip, which is swept back like a more traditional AR grip. It was a bit better, but it still didn't feel right.

Here's the good. The weight was excellent for felt recoil, yes it's a .22 and there's not much there as it is, but even standing there was very little movement after taking a shot. I threw it on a bag and there's barely any movement. The entire rifle weighed in at 9lbs 10.5oz. The chassis alone is 4.2lbs, according to the Oryx website. The adjustability of the comb is good. Once it's tightened down, there's no movement, felt well against the cheek.

I'm happy overall with the build. The only issue is that it is not for what I wanted for. I would say this rifle build was meant for a bipod, not an Appleseed. I can't return it, I might sell the chassis, but not sure at this point. I'm going to continue with Appleseed events, I just have so much fun, but I'm getting ready to start building a PRS/NRL22 bolt rifle. I was hoping this chassis was the final piece to my 10/22 rifles. But it looks like I'm back to the drawing board looking for a different stock.

I'm heading to another Appleseed next month in Pelham NH. I used my iron sight setup last event, I was hoping to use the scoped setup this time around. But I couldn't do the two days with this.

When shooting positions comb hight can change as does scope position so you have to manipulate yourself into each position.
Heavy rifle is fine for off hand, learn to use proper stance and bone support. You should see how heavy some NRA service rifle and match rifles are.

Proper sling use is and can be awkward until you get used to it

Are you wearing a shooting glove?
Sling should not move much once your locked in nice and snug.

What sling are you using

The forestock on that chasis looks to be less than ideal for support hand. A nice shooting glove might help

I still need to check the Titan stock for prone sling use
One of my goals for 2022 is appleseed with my 10/22 out fitted with 75 year old match sights

I just ordered a Victor Titan to try that out. See how it feels. I run a Magpul Hunter on my other 10/22 and what you say I feel with that. It locks in and there's no movement on my sling. Feels tight with solid support. If after shooting the Titan I'm still not comfortable, I'm just going to go back to the Hunter X cause I feel the ergonomics on that are solid for my needs.

I practiced with it after my son went to bed last night. My wife was amused as I was attempting to find a proper feel for the setup. The prone position is the worst, honestly, the grip just keeps digging into my support arm as I bring my arm underneath the rifle.

I'm using USGI slings. I started out using the Magpul RSL and found out fast that while it works, its not as good as the cotton webbing on the USGI.

No, I'm not using a shooting glove. I've seen one person using them at the events, but I've never looked into them personally. Not sure what they offer.

What's special about those match sights, beyond them being 75 years old? Got a picture?

I'm sitting here using the rifle in my living room and I had a thought. Im doing this wrong, well not wrong, just differently. So yesterday at the range, last night, and this morning I've using the hasty sling method, and honestly, I wasn't comfortable at all. I do not like it, and I'm getting more and more frustrated with it.

What I do know is that with the other rifle I was very comfortable, and the last time I slung it was last year at the Appleseed in Oct/Nov. I started thinking back to that day and I'm pretty sure, we were loop-slinging it all day. So I just slung it up in a loop and it was way more comfortable and stable. No movement on the sling at all. Much more stable. I was probably just having a brain fart. I know hasty is completely an acceptable and successful style of using the sling. But the loop style is so much better. I'll get back to the range and see if my groups tighten up, and I'm more relaxed.

Damn, I already ordered the Titan stock. Should have been more patient.
