'When you disarm law-abiding citizens you make them more likely to be victims'
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) defended the Second Amendment during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday in the wake of a mass shooting in Boulder, Colorado.

During a hearing on “Constitutional and Common Sense Steps to Reduce Gun Violence,” Cruz criticized Democrat efforts to enact universal background checks and other gun control legislation as “ridiculous theater.”

“We have had far too many tragedies in our country… I’ve been to too damn many of these,” Cruz said. “Every time there’s a shooting, we play this ridiculous theater where this committee gets together and proposes a bunch of laws that would do nothing to stop these murders.”

“What happens in this committee after every mass shooting is Democrats propose taking away guns from law-abiding citizens, because that’s their political objective,” Cruz said.

“But what they propose, not only does it not reduce crime, it makes it worse,” he added. “The jurisdictions in this country with the strictest gun control have among the highest rates of crime and murder.

“When you disarm law abiding citizens, you make them more likely to be victims. If you want to stop these murders, go after the murderers.”

Cruz’s arguments come as several prominent Democrats including Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Sen. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Barack Obama and Joe Biden have all urged members of their party to introduce a new bill calling for a ban on so-called assault weapons.

Business as usual.
Was there ever a time in your life that the dems weren't scheming to disarm the populace ???
Not a moment.

Mind, there was a time in my life when an actual US Senator wouldn't call them on it in anything like such plain terms.

One of Trump’s (many) important legacies was the “de-masking” of political discourse, on both sides of the political spectrum. American voters see through the rhetoric on either side pretty clearly now. Once you cut through the baloney, real debate can happen. . .

A syrian immigrant (didn't Creepy just bomb the Eff out of them?) on an FBI watchlist, goes Snackbar. How the in the land of the Holy Eff did this guy even get his hands on a firearm? Sounds like, just like with the last 20 or so mass shootings, that the Fibbies dropped the ball again. Too busy shooting dogs, dropping flash bangs on babies, and attending Social Equity classes to do their jobs I guess......

Just to be fair Sen. Joe Manchin D West Virginia is on record as opposing stricter gun control measures.

I wish they would stop talking about an "agenda" and just say that all gun control is based in racism and unconstitutional. Furthermore, the second amendment is in the BOR and those are the right of the individual American that cannot be touched or infringed upon by the government.
FFS call it what it is. A NAZI Hitler regime tactic.
Every argument falls apart the moment someone yells "Nazi".

Disarming people has been happening for hundreds, if not thousands of years by the rulers. The Nazis used it, but when you say "Nazi" peoples minds go all over the place.

Instead, just say something like "government oppression tactic".

Well, but Manchin isn't exactly a D, really. Some of the time.

Manchin is the loosest of loose cannons, but he does understand a fundamental equation: that a West Virginia politician who opposes guns doesn't get to stay a West Virginia politician very long.

a government cannot oppress, it only wants what is best for you.
:)

I think you’re being a bit generous with that statement.

And how.

Lots of optimists around here sometimes. I prefer to be a realist. Most people will do (and think) what they're told by what they perceive as authority figures.

(Echoing Mike Pence), Howie has begun saying that
"Manchin is always there when you don't need him".

From the former Kelly's Roast Beef at Jordan's Furniture, Natick:

Yup, those "optimists" are the ones who always seem shocked a few years down the road when they realize how many rights have been taken away from them. Go figure.

I may not be a fan of the far left, but at least they understand the concept of force:

Understand who is the real enemy of the people. It's rich uber wealthy liberal types who are basically corporatists and enjoy their 6 and 7 figure suburban lifestyle and want to cement power just exactly where it is. They nod their heads and look down at the floor when cancel culture and white fragility is discussed and can pull off instantaneous piousness in a fraction of a second to sound concerned. But it's all a sham. Notice I didn't mention political parties because this group is both democrat and republican. The gun changes the equation of cementing civilization to the benefit of a very few at a very fundamental level because not even the richest corporate a** kisser is bullet proof if push ever came to shove. In essence they want the guns including AR15s for themselves and make the bar so unbelievably high that only a handful of other rich mainly white people will have weapons.

Let's be honest, the largest group of racists in our country isn't Billy Joe Cowdung living in a double wide in Podunk Arkansas with his F-150 and a bald eagle and NRA sticker on the rear window. It's rich white liberals living in the suburbs in blue cities and blue states. Those are the people who manage to get people like Pelosi, Schumer, etc back into office for term after term, until it becomes a dynasty as opposed to public service. These are the same couples who have the usual 'bored housewife' who volunteers with some Bloomberg authoritarian organization. They don't care. They just want the mathematical equation of planet earth factored in their favor and kept just like that, so the offspring will start off life with 6 figure salaries and keep the dynasty exactly where it is.

Meh, it's the usual blowhard democrat tactics. They offer catnip to the Bloomberg cultists and do what democrats are wold famous for: Nothing.

Agreed.

That's not to say that they're not serious, nor that the current push isn't a concern. It's just to say that that headline could have been written about almost every Democrat candidate since about 1974.
