Well that is good to know. I currently have a 5' 6" ultralight rod. Would be short money to buy a casting bubble and some flys to try it out.
Of course then I have to find something else to spend money on. [smile]
I have some money coming in (couple hundred bucks) and am trying to figure out how I want to spend it on possibly getting some new fishing gear (translation: I want to buy more things) .
I want to look at trying to fish with some flys as a way to have some artificial lures to fish with. Took...
Don't have a tested suggestion for you, but lead is 155% the density of tin so that is your issue.
Not sure if you would hurt yourself trying to bite a tungsten split shot.

Tungsten is even denser and appears to come in split shot...
I am very tempted to look at a canoe or kayak to get myself off the bank when fishing, but of course that would snowball into needing a way to get the wife and kid out on the water also as they wouldn't take kindly to me being the only one having fun in the midde of the water.
Also, have to...
Tried shiners, hoofed around two areas in the afternoon and couldn't buy a bite.
After dinner went as a family to throw the remaining living ones (less than 50% made it 4 hours in the bucket in the garage)
As I am tossing them into the local pond to offer and easy takeout dinner bass start...
Tried yum dingers Texas rigged, clearly haven't been positioning them well yet.
I did hit one with a rapala tonight, then promptly lost the lure when my knot came undone which put a damper on the evening. Wish I had written down what kind of rapala it was, bought it used today and liked the...
Will have to figure a time I can swing by the place with live bait and pick some up ahead of getting out fishing. Seems like a solid way to get some results.
I seem to have a good feel for fishing where they were, now if only I could keep up with where they keep moving to.
Will have to see...
What size of shiner is good for that?
Guess I will have to practice with a rubber worm. The live ones lasted about 30 seconds before they were reduced to a nub on the hook.
Will have to practice that. Got some rubber worms but only got one bite so far.
So I started fishing this year, have caught a ton of bluegill with a worm, but now trying to branch out to catch some other stuff. I have caught a couple bass (along with some pike and one yellow perch) in local lakes using panther martins and rooster tails but have not had a huge amount of...
Any suggestions on what is good to throw for Bass the summer for pond/lake fishing around here?
Have had some luck with inline spinners (rooster tail and panther martins) but have not been able to connect the dots on what is working vs what was random luck.
Currently using #10 and #12 barbless hooks. Have had the issue with the #10, the #12 had two fish try to swallow it whole and so that seems too small indeed.
Will look to pick some up, what's an ideal size for catching a fish like in my picture? (Caught a variety of similar size on a #10...
Figured I would put a small update in, finally was able to catch some fish.
After a number of times out fishing with powerbait or salmon eggs because I hadn't remembered to harvest some worms before heading out I went out with worms and have had good luck.
Still learning a bit on how to hook...
Bought a few different lures but mostly just using baited hook. Lost a few hooks this weekend while trying out new spots around the local reservoir. Amazingly was able to get my bobber back all but once, where the hook let go and the bobber got slammed into a tree behind me.
Was moving some...
I ended up getting an Ugly Stick combo, spooled it up with 6# line. So far I am liking it.
I figured at some point I will switch out reels but figured I would start with the one that came with it and have not had any problems.
At the moment I would just like to catch something, so sunfish...
If I was to start with one rod, would you recommend starting with a light or a medium?
Yeah, I kind of figured. Some are cool to use, some are cool to look at, and some are relegated to backup to the backup because they are the least exciting.
Good to know some quality places to check out!
Well up until a few days ago I didn't even know the difference between the two.
Also good to hear positive reviews of the ugly stick combo as that was one I had been looking at.
Just to be clear, did you buy the Ugly Stick Spin Cast combo or the Spinning Reel combo?

Yeah I originally was looking at the ugly stick combo before my Father In Law said to go with a spin caster. I can relate to sucking at fishing but just throwing the line out, that was what I was doing practicing at lunch. The beauty of targeting to fish in local ponds is there are 3 options...
