  1. Recoil Question

The only time I've ever felt a pistol function as you describe was after a friend took my Beretta 92 and was going to lube it for me with this "incredible new stuff that all the SEAL's, SWAT teams, Postal Service snipers, etc are using. It's called Frog Lube!".
  2. Shooting 556 through 223 AR

Drop rifle. Mark off area with caution tape.
  3. Input on Buying a new Single Stage Press

I've never been real impressed with LEE stuff. I had a LEE Pro 1000 (I think). I got it used in a box of stuff. That thing was the biggest piece of junk I've ever seen. Maybe the LEE single-stage presses are OK, but the pot-metal they used to build that progressive press did not inspire...
  4. Winchester model 75

75's are nice rifles. Some say they are the "Poor man's 52", but I've heard they can be just as accurate. I'd soak the bolt in solvent of some sort, or throw it in a ultrasonic cleaner.
  5. School me on .223 and 5.56

    This cracked me up.
  6. Snowmobile first aid kit / extraction / tools

For snowmobile accidents, the most common serious injuries are broken bones. Knowing how to splint broken stuff will be the most useful skill. If it's more than that, the best course is to get that person out and near a hospital is the best thing. Sometimes you can't move them. Shelter and fire...
  7. Scope mount

No doubt they are. But, does a person buy it as a daily driver because it performs that function so much better than a Toyota Carolla? Or is it because that person wants to say "My daily driver is a Bently"?
  8. Scope mount

I also believe in that, if it can be shown that it does something better than a less-expensive alternative. But $4-$500 for a extended 30mm mount? I don't think so. That's like recommending a Bentley or Ferrari as a daily grocery-getter.
  9. Garand Specialist in Western Massachusetts?

Muzzles got worn out from too much/careless cleaning from the muzzle. The old solution for the "Blue Sky Imports" was to drill out or "back bore" the muzzle a half inch or so until you got back into good rifling. I haven't seen that done in a long, long time.
  10. Scope mount

The Primary Arms mounts are gtg. Get the extended mount. Be careful when tightening the base screws/bolts. They take a 1/2" wrench or socket and will strip out if you honk onto them.
  11. School me on .223 and 5.56

Ok, next question: do you know of anybody using FACTORY ammo who has popped a primer? Someone who doesn't have a chewed-up firing pin to begin with? Handloaders, yes, especially if you're pushing heavy bullets. I've done it dozens of times. But factory 5.56 in a 223 chamber? I've never heard of...
  12. School me on .223 and 5.56

High enough to cause a problem?
  13. School me on .223 and 5.56

It's THE SAME FRIGGIN CASE! You can blow a rifle in a number of ways. Using the wrong powder is the best way. But, commercial/govt 5.56 ammo is not loaded to such a high pressure that its going to blow a 223 chambered rifle. It just isnt.
  14. Browning 12 gauge over under shotgun

I'm not much of a shotgun guy, but I've had a Browning Citori Trap Special Edition with the factory adjustable rib and ported barrels for years. Never use it. I sometimes contemplate selling it, but always think "They are the best O/U made, where would I find another, and what would I have to...
  15. School me on .223 and 5.56

    5.56 or 223. Whatever. Interchangeable.
  16. Any suggestions on making a Mac-11 Cobray into a semi-serviceable weapon?

There's an old expression: "don't throw good money after bad". I wouldn't put another nickle into that thing. As others have said, wait until the next panic-buying spree comes around and unload it. I'd use that as trade bait to some dumb kid who was unloading his grandads collection. No...
  17. Vortex Optics Razor HD Spotting Scope, 20-60x

With all due respect, the Celestron is about a dozen notches below the Vortex as far as clarity goes. I DO see 223 bullet holes at 300 with the Vortex. Not in all conditions though. With both scopes, you need conditions to be in your favor to see holes at 300. It's just that with the Vortex...
  18. Vortex Optics Razor HD Spotting Scope, 20-60x

That's a good deal for somebody.
  19. Vortex Optics Razor HD Spotting Scope, 20-60x

That photo they are using is the wrong one. The Razor HD 20-60x85mm is the one further down the page. I have one. It's a great scope. I've had Kowa and the Vortex blows it away. We've looked through Nightforce side by side and nobody could say the Nightforce was better. For under $1000 its a...
  20. Recommendations for first rifle for long distance?

Others have covered it pretty well so I'll only add this: be honest with yourself about "how far out is LIKE to shoot" vs. "How far out I WILL shoot 98-100% of the time". Talk to us about the 223 AR you currently own. Barrel? Floated? You can make that into an absolute hammer out to 600 very...
