  1. Fly Fishing vs. Tenkara vs. sticking with Ultralight Spinning Rod

Well that is good to know. I currently have a 5' 6" ultralight rod. Would be short money to buy a casting bubble and some flys to try it out. Of course then I have to find something else to spend money on. [smile]
  2. Fly Fishing vs. Tenkara vs. sticking with Ultralight Spinning Rod

I have some money coming in (couple hundred bucks) and am trying to figure out how I want to spend it on possibly getting some new fishing gear (translation: I want to buy more things) . I want to look at trying to fish with some flys as a way to have some artificial lures to fish with. Took...
  3. Sinker recommendations

Don't have a tested suggestion for you, but lead is 155% the density of tin so that is your issue. Not sure if you would hurt yourself trying to bite a tungsten split shot. https://theengineeringmindset.com/density-of-metals/ Tungsten is even denser and appears to come in split shot...
  4. Any Tips for Bass Fishing?

I have had poor luck at Millvale lately targeting from the bank but I bet it would be good in a canoe. I am about 5 minutes from there.
  5. Any Tips for Bass Fishing?

I am very tempted to look at a canoe or kayak to get myself off the bank when fishing, but of course that would snowball into needing a way to get the wife and kid out on the water also as they wouldn't take kindly to me being the only one having fun in the midde of the water. Also, have to...
  6. Any Tips for Bass Fishing?

Tried shiners, hoofed around two areas in the afternoon and couldn't buy a bite. After dinner went as a family to throw the remaining living ones (less than 50% made it 4 hours in the bucket in the garage) As I am tossing them into the local pond to offer and easy takeout dinner bass start...
  7. Any Tips for Bass Fishing?

Tried yum dingers Texas rigged, clearly haven't been positioning them well yet. I did hit one with a rapala tonight, then promptly lost the lure when my knot came undone which put a damper on the evening. Wish I had written down what kind of rapala it was, bought it used today and liked the...
  8. Any Tips for Bass Fishing?

Will have to figure a time I can swing by the place with live bait and pick some up ahead of getting out fishing. Seems like a solid way to get some results. I seem to have a good feel for fishing where they were, now if only I could keep up with where they keep moving to. Will have to see...
  9. Any Tips for Bass Fishing?

What size of shiner is good for that? Guess I will have to practice with a rubber worm. The live ones lasted about 30 seconds before they were reduced to a nub on the hook. Will have to practice that. Got some rubber worms but only got one bite so far.
  10. Any Tips for Bass Fishing?

So I started fishing this year, have caught a ton of bluegill with a worm, but now trying to branch out to catch some other stuff. I have caught a couple bass (along with some pike and one yellow perch) in local lakes using panther martins and rooster tails but have not had a huge amount of...
  11. Where (and what) to Shop for Starter Fishing Reel and Rod?

Any suggestions on what is good to throw for Bass the summer for pond/lake fishing around here? Have had some luck with inline spinners (rooster tail and panther martins) but have not been able to connect the dots on what is working vs what was random luck.
  12. If you won Powerball...

Probably a mix of not knowing how to budget, not knowing how to regulate their consumption, and not knowing how to deal with people actively trying to get money from them. Everyone loves the guy who covers the tab, throws parties, and showers them with gifts. If you buy a super car, then your...
  13. Shotgun rental - near 128/495/central NH (multi day)

That seems to be about the price to buy a Mossberg 500 from a place like Bass Pro. OP could easily buy 2, then resell them at a loss later on. Only other simple solution is to find more people to go who all have multiple shotguns that they will lend out.
  14. Where (and what) to Shop for Starter Fishing Reel and Rod?

Currently using #10 and #12 barbless hooks. Have had the issue with the #10, the #12 had two fish try to swallow it whole and so that seems too small indeed. Will look to pick some up, what's an ideal size for catching a fish like in my picture? (Caught a variety of similar size on a #10...
  15. Where (and what) to Shop for Starter Fishing Reel and Rod?

Figured I would put a small update in, finally was able to catch some fish. After a number of times out fishing with powerbait or salmon eggs because I hadn't remembered to harvest some worms before heading out I went out with worms and have had good luck. Still learning a bit on how to hook...
