  1. Supreme Court - NYSRPA v. Bruen - Megathread

I just got to this in Alito's concurrence: "Like that dissent in Heller, the real thrust of today’s dissent is that guns are bad [...]." Ahh, yes, the "gunz r bad" doctrine. Does he read NES? It's an accurate skewering of Breyer's dissent, though, which even on a casual reading seems sloppy...
  2. Supreme Court - NYSRPA v. Bruen - Megathread

I'm really surprised by Hawaii there. For all that I bitch about corruption in NE US states what I've heard from friends doing business in Hawaii is that corruption there is way, way worse, and backroom deals and personal influence is what everything runs on. I'd have expected anyone with the...
  3. Called out for not wearing a mask

FWIW: my dentist in Mass stopped with it at least six months ago. Not the usual "we still have the signs up but nobody cares" but a full-on switch to "masks not required, do what works for you" on the front door and the waiting room is open again.
  4. Supreme Court - NYSRPA v. Bruen - Megathread

They can change their minds right up until it goes out the door. Thus the pressure now.
  5. Canada Goes Full Castro - Bans All Handgun Transactions & Forces Surrender of Semi-Auto Rifles

The old (up to now, roughly) Canada rules aren't that far from NYC: as an unconnected person with a clean record you can probably eventually get a license for home/range use by jumping through a bunch of hoops, but it's an expensive pain in the butt. I went to school in NYC for a bit and the...
  6. 21 killed, 18 injured in shooting at elementary school in Uvalde, Texas

The whole Mass GFZ thing has a solid carve-out for anyone with "the written authorization of the board or officer in charge of the elementary or secondary school, college or university". Has anyone there ever asked? My experience with a couple of Massachusetts universities is that there is a...
  7. 21 killed, 18 injured in shooting at elementary school in Uvalde, Texas

I've never been a cop, but I've worked in the lock trade for a bit. The tools for picking locks are easy enough to get, but without practice and a bit of a feel for it it's not easy, and definitely not while being shot at. I'd be really surprised if they would ever bother, usually they just...
  8. 21 killed, 18 injured in shooting at elementary school in Uvalde, Texas

List of states and exactly which permits qualify is here: https://www.atf.gov/rules-and-regulations/permanent-brady-permit-chart IIRC correctly the reason the current Massachusetts LTCs don't qualify is something silly like not having the state seal or similar.
  9. MA Gun club recommendations

Another option, maybe: Woburn Sportsmen's Association is not terribly far and has nice facilities too. Confusingly not actually in Woburn. As for Reading, dues are payable at the beginning of the year and usually around now is when unpaid members get dropped. Also there's a quarterly...
  10. 17-year-old arrested in killing of 2 people in Kenosha

It doesn't apply here (which is the ex-Presidential house, which I'm sure has controlled access), but in the bigger picture they do sometimes get out and mix with the unwashed (and un-security-screened) masses. Probably the sketchiest thing I can think of was when both Clintons showed up...
  11. What paint for filling in etched safety symbols in metal lower reciever?

Any of the above, or white-out if anyone still has that around. Like painting anything else, though, prep is key: if you want it to stick get oil residue out of the engraving first.
  12. Opinion from NES Electricians....The real ones!!!

I like to see at least a little of the romex insulation inside the box, and I usually use labels like "downstairs NW" because in 20 years nobody knows where the bunny was, but if all of my wiring at home looked as good as the "after" pic I'd be happy. Usually when somebody says "wtf with this...
  13. 6 Dead, Dying, and Soon-To-Be-Obsolete Handgun Cartridges. Agree?

I think there's still a niche in .25 pocket pistols that, while it mostly belongs to another era, I don't see any real practical replacement for. Every time I pick up a .25 I'm amazed again at how dang tiny the things are. Also, damn good thing they left .455 off the list, it'll outlive us all.
