On May 3 gun control proponent Gabby Giffords joined Democrat lawmakers on Capitol Hill in pledging to fight efforts to nationalize concealed carry for law-abiding citizens.

By opposing national reciprocity, Giffords and lawmakers like Senator Chris Murphy (D) are literally working against citizens who have received some level of firearm education and/or training, and have undergone background checks for their permits. This comes even as Giffords’ gun control group is demanding background checks as a way to know who should and should not be able to own a gun.

According to Newsweek, Giffords spoke at a press conference Wednesday, saying, “Stopping gun violence takes courage. We must never stop fighting.… The nation’s counting on you.” She took up a campaign for background checks just two years after an attacker shot her with a gun he acquired via a background check.

On Friday, seven individuals, the Second Amendment Foundation, and other pro-Second Amendment groups filed suit against California’s “high-capacity” magazine ban.

The other plaintiffs include The Calguns Foundation, the Firearms Policy Coalition, and the Firearms Policy Foundation.

According to CBS SF Bay Area, the suit is filed against Attorney General Xavier Becerra. Attorney George Lee is representing the plaintiffs and contends that the “high-capacity” magazine ban “violates… [the plaintiffs] Second Amendment right to bear arms.”

The Firearms Policy Coalition announced the lawsuit and explained the circuitous route which Democrats traveled to secure the magazine ban:

Last year, California Governor Jerry signed into law Senate Bill 1446 (SB 1446), which changed state statutes to completely ban law-abiding people from possessing all “large-capacity” firearm magazines as of July 1, 2017. Following that, Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom’s Proposition 63 (Prop 63) “Safety For All Act” gun control initiative—which also contained language banning “large-capacity” magazines—was passed by voters in the November general election.

Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro is giving guns to upwards of 400,000 of his supporters in hopes of squashing opponents’ demands for free and fair elections.

The guns would increase the 100,000 pro-Maduro militia members to roughly half a million in the short term, though Maduro spoke of “one million” militiamen in the long term.

On Sunday night, Maduro ordered the National Bolivarian Militia, a coalition of armed socialist civilians empowered to enforce Maduro’s will, into the streets to stem the tide of opponents calling for elections to replace him. He promised “a gun for every militiaman” and the quadrupling of his civilian force, from 100,000 to 400,000, as soon as possible.

According to Fox News/AP/EFE, Maduro is framing his gun giveaway as a means of fighting outside forces controlled by America seeking to remove him from office.

Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts suggested President Donald Trump’s pro-gun administration is the ‘NRA’s Dream’ but America’s nightmare Sunday, during an appearance MSNBC.

She was especially concerned about the push for “concealed carry reciprocity,” which she described as “extremely dangerous.”

For anyone not familiar with national reciprocity for concealed carry, the goal is to replace the current patchwork of concealed carry laws with a recognition that a concealed permit from one state is valid in every state. This would allow concealed permit holders to drive from one state to the next and keep their handgun with them for self-defense just as they do in their home state. This is what Watts described as “extremely dangerous.”

On Monday night, a concealed carry permit holder intervened to stop a knife attack then held the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived.
The reported knife attack occurred in Austin, Texas, and the alleged attacker and victim were brothers.

According to KATV, Lt. Brandon Teel saw the brothers fighting then drew his gun and intervened when he realized “the severity of the fight.”

The older brother — 47-year-old Darren Terry — had “three lacerations” and had to be transported to a hospital to receive treatment. The younger brother — 30-year-old Chris Terry — was the alleged attacker and was held at gunpoint until police arrived.
