A report from the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) shows the demand for concealed carry witnessed its greatest surge ever between May 2016 and May 2017.
The number of permits nationwide has now surpassed 15 million.

That means more than 15 million law-abiding Americans have permits to carry a gun every day for defense of their own lives and the lives of others. And that 15 million-plus does not include the untold number of residents who legally carry without a permit in Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Vermont, Wyoming, and West Virginia.

According to Fox News, the CPRC reports that there were 14.5 million permit holders in May 2016. There are approximately 15.7 million now.

A home invasion victim in Dallas, Texas, called police and waited one hour and twenty-seven minutes for officers to arrive.

The victim–referred to as “Jamie”–said he was lying in bed when he heard footsteps, and the next thing he heard was the sound of a suspect telling him not to move, as that suspect pressed the barrel of a gun against the back of Jamie’s head.

According to WFAA, 65-year-old Jamie said, “[The suspect] kept saying, ‘Where is the safe?’ and I would say, ‘I don’t have the safe’ and he would press [the gun] into my head.”

He called police when the suspect left his bedroom, and police arrived one hour and twenty-seven minutes later.

On May 3 gun control proponent Gabby Giffords joined Democrat lawmakers on Capitol Hill in pledging to fight efforts to nationalize concealed carry for law-abiding citizens.

By opposing national reciprocity, Giffords and lawmakers like Senator Chris Murphy (D) are literally working against citizens who have received some level of firearm education and/or training, and have undergone background checks for their permits. This comes even as Giffords’ gun control group is demanding background checks as a way to know who should and should not be able to own a gun.

According to Newsweek, Giffords spoke at a press conference Wednesday, saying, “Stopping gun violence takes courage. We must never stop fighting.… The nation’s counting on you.” She took up a campaign for background checks just two years after an attacker shot her with a gun he acquired via a background check.

On Friday, seven individuals, the Second Amendment Foundation, and other pro-Second Amendment groups filed suit against California’s “high-capacity” magazine ban.

The other plaintiffs include The Calguns Foundation, the Firearms Policy Coalition, and the Firearms Policy Foundation.

According to CBS SF Bay Area, the suit is filed against Attorney General Xavier Becerra. Attorney George Lee is representing the plaintiffs and contends that the “high-capacity” magazine ban “violates… [the plaintiffs] Second Amendment right to bear arms.”

The Firearms Policy Coalition announced the lawsuit and explained the circuitous route which Democrats traveled to secure the magazine ban:

Last year, California Governor Jerry signed into law Senate Bill 1446 (SB 1446), which changed state statutes to completely ban law-abiding people from possessing all “large-capacity” firearm magazines as of July 1, 2017. Following that, Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom’s Proposition 63 (Prop 63) “Safety For All Act” gun control initiative—which also contained language banning “large-capacity” magazines—was passed by voters in the November general election.

Black women are flocking to firearm classes in cities like Atlanta, Cincinnati, Dallas, and Savannah, learning to shoot and use guns for self-defense.

The classes are specifically geared toward the women, bearing names like “Trigger Happy Firearm Instruction,” “Brown Girls Project,” and “Black Woman’s Defense League,” among others. All are designed to teach black women how to properly use a firearm and to carry it in a way that it is accessible and ready if needed for self-defense.
