Dudley puts limits on cat ownership
DUDLEY, Mass. -- It's now illegal in one Massachusetts town to own more than three cats without getting a special license.
Voters at a town meeting in Dudley on Monday night added language to a town bylaw that makes it illegal to own more than three cats without a $50 residential kennel license. Dudley is about 60 miles southwest of Boston.
The article was in response to a neighborhood feud over the 15 cats owned by Mary Ellen Richards.
The Telegram & Gazette of Worcester reports that one neighbor claimed the cats have ruined his yard.
Richards has put her home up for sale and says she plans to move to a "more cat-friendly community."

So, these jacksoffs designed a bylaw so they could defeat a CAT LADY?
Cut me a break.
This state is pathetic.

"Do this. Don't do that. Stay back in line. Where's tax receipt? Fill out form. Let's see license. Submit six copies. Exit only. No left turn. No right turn. Queue up and pay fine. Take back and get stamped. Drop dead— but first get permit. "

She better stay the hell out of my neighborhood. 15 cats? Her house must stink like Janet Reno's undercarriage. blech.Richards has put her home up for sale and says she plans to move to a "more cat-friendly community."

I dislike licensing more than cats.
Yet another thing where an entire ordinance has to be passed rather than simply getting and enforcing an order against one person. I guess that didn't want to specifically hurt the cat lady's feelings.
Dudley used to have a gun club until a neighbor sued the town demanding they shut down the club. The club tried to use the law protecting them from noise ordinances passed after the club started operation, but the judge ruled "no proof the club has been in continuous use since it opened therefore that law is not applicable; the club is ordered to stop shooting; next case please" and the club could not afford an appeal. The neighbor even hired a private detective to join the club as part of the case preparation.
So, they have problems worse than cats to worry about.

Idiotic law. It isn't the business of any municipality to know how many cats I may or may not have.
