Default CT. Man Arrested For Using Shotgun To Remove Tree Branches.

Man trying to shoot off tree limb arrested

NORTH HAVEN ó A man who allegedly used a shotgun to try to get rid of a tree limb in his backyard has been arrested.

Antonio Chiaia, 74, of 9 Cricket Court, was arrested at his home Saturday morning after a neighbor reported he was discharging a shotgun in his yard, Capt. James Merrithew said.

Chiaia told police he could not reach the tree limb with a saw, so he was trying to remove it by shooting at it. The branch is still there, Merrithew said.

The gun, a double-barrel 12-gauge, was seized, and Chiaia was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm and second-degree reckless endangerment. He is scheduled to appear July 16 in Superior Court in Meriden.
So why is this a problem?

I don't know, we were jonesin' for a scattergun the other day upta camp because there was a giant branch hanging from another branch (otherwise known as a widow maker). Alas, no shotgun - only .45 (and I'm not THAT good of a shot)

Next time call your local Fire Department and have them remove the offending branch...they live for climbing up their ladders...and driving their big red trucks to the scene...

When I was a teen in rural Tennessee, when my friends and I would go camping/hunting out in the real boonies, we used to "hunt firewood" in trees with 12 gauges all the time. It's pretty effective when you find the right big dead branch- one shot, one kill.

Last fall I used my double barrel 12ga to remove a huge hornets nest from a tree in my parents back yard up in Maine. That was fun.
