    Default Remington 597 Bipod

I'm looking to add a feature to my OD plastic stock Remington 597 plinker that allows it to accept a bipod, would like it to be cheap and easy since the gun is cheap too.

I'm thinking I could use this (and attach these to several rifles in the future) which would allow one nice high quality bipod to do duty for multiple guns, also it looks like it would provide a nice forward thumb rest/grip.

The problem is that this says it requires an existing QD Swivel, which my remington 597 does not have and does not have a pre-made hole for either... so I guess I need to drill/tap into the fore portion of the stock and attach a swivel? How would I do this? Would this work?

It looks like the plate goes on the inside of the stock (maybe I would need to dremel out a spot for it) and the swivel goes outside on the bottom. Then the adapter above would attach to that.

    Thoughts? Thanks.

Thanks, I will try that if no one on here has a good answer/idea. Just figured it might be a simple/easy thing someone has done.

Also found this swivel stud, I could just screw this right into the stock maybe by drilling a hole that uses the minor diameter of the screw so that it basically taps the hole itself as I screw it in.

So does anyone know if either of those two swivel stud attachment ideas will work?

I use a Caldwell QD swivel-mount bipod pretty often and it is a good, solid attachment. On a plastic stock, I would want at least a nut on the other side of the swivel. I can't check your links now, but I'd avoid a swivel designed for a wood stock. Get one with machine threads and recess in a plate or nut on the other side.

    It'll work great.

    Thanks for the input Mike!

I ordered the one with the backing plate. If i need to dremel out a little seat for it I don't think it will be too hard.

I ordered the versa pod adapter and a caldwell 6-9" with pivot feature... seems to be a good choice if you don't want to spend the $$ for a harris. This is just a 22 so I'm not as concerned about strength, etc.

    Hopefully it'll work out.
