    Default Scared wife becoming prepper?

My wife has been watching the prepper TV shows with me, and she has become somewhat interested in the food storage aspect of it. And especially because now that Costco is selling emergency food packages.

Anyway, "Contagion" came from Netflix and we watched it a few nights ago. Nothing surprising to me, I watch those kind of movies all the time. But the wife was absolutely stunned by it: the epidemic, the breakdown of society, the lengths people go for survival. Her eyes have been opened -- she's now looking to put together some "germ proofing kits" and store water and fuel. Wow, what a transformation. Still trying to take her to the range

Tell her if the poo hits and she doesn't want you to be cranky all the time from never sleeping, she better learn to shoot a rifle well so you can get a nap every so often.

If 4 year old kids in africa can shoot an ak47 there is no reason why a grown woman can't try a .22 :-) Anyway thats the line I always use...

Good start now off the to range! I always laugh at the people on Doomsday Preppers who say "we have plenty to go around, we'd just invite them to dinner and we'd be friends". There would be absolutely nothing that would stop them from just saying, "this is our farm now" and that would be the optimistic scenario.

What you have to convince them is that 1) they don't need to fear the sheepdogs. 2) you're a sheepdog, not a wolf. 3) taking away the sheepdogs doesn't make the wolf go away

Go with her to an Appleseed shoot. For women it is very cheap and the training is great. Both my wife and I learned a lot. She is returning to the next one and bringing a friend. Sometimes it is easier if someone else is teaching your spouse. At least that has been my experience.

While better than nothing, you would be better served by storing what you eat and eating what you store.

I know several folks who have bought into this style of "Prepardness in a box" and they are often under prepared for even a short term situation.

Digging through this sub-forum will yield a ton of usefull info.
