| Registered User | Wasn't sure where to post this-feel free to move it. I'm thinking of getting a S&W M&P 15-22 but I have a couple of questions. 1. Does the Mass. compliant model accept the 25rd mags or has it been modified so they can't be used? 2. If the gun hasn't been modified to accept only 10rd mags, is there such a thing as a pre-ban mag that would work in this gun? (I know this is highly unlikely but I thought I would ask anyway) 3. If I buy the non-MA compliant model, pin the stock myself and only use 10rd mags, would that be "legal"? Last edited by carmy; 11-07-2009 at 07:59 AM. Reason: spelling |

| NES Member | 1) YES...there is no rifle modification for mag capacity, just a law limiting it to no more than 10 rounds in Mass for post-ban mags. It is the mag that is often pinned to become Mass compliant if not just made smaller in size. 2) NO...unless there are pre-ban mags that fit other rifles that will fit (highly unlikely) the new S&W. S&W ain't that dumb, Mass is a small percentage of their business and they want to sell as many mags (hi-cap) as possible to the rest of the "free states". They don't want us buying someone else's mags for their rifles. 3) NO...until it is finally pinned you are committing a crime just possessing it within the state if it is mounted on the rifle. __________________ "The only thing necessary for evil to flourish, is that good men do nothing." | Registered User | Hey Carguy, I see you are from Peabody. Me too. I'm in South Peabody, how about you? Your answer to question #1 sounds like what I expected but do you mind if I ask how you know the gun isn't modified since the compliant model isn't available yet? As for #2, just what I expected. As for #3, I'm not sure what you mean by "until it is finally pinned". If I pin it myself in some way that is permanent wouldn't that be ok? |

| NES Member | The decideing factor for me NOT to get the S&W M&P22, mags are of their own design, and from what I have read on other sites they are back ordered on mags. Waiting for a MA compliant model Now if they designed it to take the current ciener/blackdog/tacsol/spikes type mags it may have been better. I have found some older pre ban 22lr conversion mags on line. Price point pushed me away. MHO...if you own a AR already get a dedicated upper and some extra mags http://www.gunkings.com/index.php?ma...roducts_id=583 where I got mine and couldnt be happier. http://blackdogmachinellc.net/ar15-....-magazine.aspx and mags on sale here |

| NES Member | I also debated this as well (with myself http://blackdogmachinellc.net/tactic...-barrel-1.aspx I think the S&W is probably the best dedicated 22 AR like rifle so far though, They will do very well selling this as a training alternative to an AR. I see Mac already posted the link to the TacSol uppers... A little redundancy never hurt anyone I guess! |
