Selling a handgun to a RI resident from a Non-Resident
Hello, If someone lives in VT and wants to sell a friend a handgun, and that friend lives in RI, what is the proper process to do so? I know there has to be an FFL involved, so can the VT resident simply bring the handgun to an FFL in RI and transfer it there?

That would require transit through MA, I would strongly advise against it.
The easiest way is to have a FFL in VT ship it to a FFL in RI.
It may not be cheap, but it is safe.Last edited by Glockaholic; 04-16-2012 at 11:23 AM.

The best way is to ship it from a FFL in VT to a FFL in RI. I don't know what a FFL typically charges in VT for the work, but the cost of shipping is not very big (about $10-15 I think). Heritage in West Warwick does free transfers for customer (buy a box of ammo) so he could ship it to them.

I should have also mentioned that I'm in RI every weekend and I belong to a gun club there. So, I can travel through MA no problem. If I shipped it, I'd have to send it UPS and they require next day air. It is quite pricey. So, I'm basically wondering if in RI I can take it to the FFL if I don't stop in MA or RI for any other reason.
I basically drive right by the FFL in RI every weekend.
