    Default Insane Woodpecker?

The strangest thing's been going on here the last couple of days. A woodpecker has taken up residence in the neighborhood. The strange part is, it's not going near any trees. It's going for our outdoor grills! I did a WTF when I first heard it in my driveway -- it sounds like an MG422 snare drum. I looked out and saw it fly away, and thought it was in the tree outside my house next to the grill.

But yesterday I peeked out and it looked like it flew off the grill, so I figured that's what it was doing. This morning proved it -- I heard the metallic drum sound in a neighbor's yard a few hundred feet away. Then, louder. It's on my grill at this moment, drumming away. I figure it'll move to the next grill in a little while.

Perhaps he was listening to the Surfaris on an oldies station and can't get "Wipeout" out of his head.

Maybe it is going after the fat on your grill, if you put some suet out it might leave the grill alone. Must be funny as heck to watch though.

We had one that would rap on the metal roof shed and mailbox every spring. I think it is a mating thing not a dumb bird looking for metal bugs. It is annoying.

Yep... it's a mating thang. They are up on my stainless steel chimney cap hammering away all the time (when they are not otherwise having fun destroying my house).

Woodpeckers will be the death of me.

Yes, they like the fat. I keep a suet feeder out for them and several different ones come all the time. Jack.

Tape strands of reynolds wrap to any where a woodpecker taps. They don't like to go near any thing that's shiny and flutters..

I've noticed a significant level of woodpecker activity lately... it a constant battle keeping them from my house!
