    Default Have-a-heart trap

I was wondering if there was anyone in the dracut / lowell / tyngsboro area that has a large Have-a-heart trap or something similar that I may be able to borrow. There is a large raccoon going through my trash that I would like to catch - it is probably the biggest damm raccoon that I have ever seen so it would need to be a good size trap. Thanks alot.

NES doesn't have a heart... we kill things (preferably with fire), or at least ask "what caliber to take down a raccoon"?

Back ~30 years ago I was able to borrow a Haveaheart trap from the local Audubon Society location. If such exists up your neck of the woods, you might try giving them a call.

Just don't shoot anything you trap, you can badly damage the wires. Drown or gas (blanket over trap next to exhaust pipe of car) the critter.

I've heard that fire ants work very well.

And here, the brilliant irony of the Hav-a-Hart trap. Once you catch something humanely, then you have basically no choice but to kill it...somehow. It's illegal to relocate most animals due to disease concerns and other issues.

Takes too long. Audubon told me to drown what I caught. A co-worker who did taxidermy on the side suggested the gassing so that there were no holes or other issues so that he could stuff & mount the raccoon that I caught many years ago.

Yup, it's illegal to relocate them (except if YOU are the gov't) so that is your only option.

    True.
I have a friend that works for Critter Control and he said the same thing.
Even if he wanted to relocate an animal that he has trapped, Mass law doesn't allow it and he could lose his license if he's caught doing so. Which basically leaves him no choice but to kill the animal either by drowning or gassing.
