although the average of $2.25 a gallon seems a bit low to me, at least they docked his retirement.

Citing disciplinary records it obtained, The Star-Ledger of Newark reports the trooper was suspended without pay in March and retired in April. He was not criminally charged.
I wonder if you or I would have been criminally charged for stealing $7,000 worth of fuel.

It's still theft, but it's not like he drove up and pumped 3k gallons of fuel. Likely he was filling up his tank at the fleet depot at the end of his shift and no-one raised a flag until an audit or newspaper report highlighted it.

He's paid for the gas, lost his job (and profession) and dropped his pention 23% plus medical, so he'll be paying the state back more than 7k every year for the rest of his life.

it comes to about $5.50 / day for 3 1/2 years. It'd be like going home with a ream of paper from the office everyday.

officials reduced his pension — from 65 percent of his final salary to 50 percent
So, he steals $7K and still gets half his pension. GREAT!

..and no medical benefits. But thats ok, Obamacare will take care of him.

I've heard that their club is accepting new members. All it takes is $600 worth of airsoft parts and the permanent sacrifice of your penis.

Are you a cop, or have cops in your family? It seems only cops will defend another cop with shitty platitudes like "well, he'll pay it back and he's loosing some of his pension".

He should be in jail, like you and I would be. Well, maybe not you... if you're a cop. Some animals are more equal than others. Pigs seem to be the most equal.

I'm not sure I understand your point. Does it matter whether he stole a little at a time over a long period or stole everything at once?

Stealing seven grand worth of anything is a felony no matter how long it took.

Usually stealing results in getting FIRED and not getting a pension.
