Connecticut condo owner told to remove Jewish religious ornament or face fines

A Connecticut condominium owner has been told by the complex's management association that she must remove a Jewish religious symbol (mezuzah) or face fines, advocates told FoxNews.com.

Barbara Cadranel, an internationally-renown harpsichordist living in Stratford, Conn., contacted the Connecticut Regional Office of the Anti-Defamation League earlier this month to report that she had been told by the California Condo Association to remove the mezuzah -- a small object inscribed with Hebrew verses from the Torah placed on the doorpost of a Jewish family's home -- or face fines of $50 per day, according to ADL's Connecticut Regional Director Gary Jones.

According to an agreement with its condo owners, the display of items like Christmas wreaths and crosses on doors is allowed, but the display of other items such as mezuzah on doorposts is not

This crap makes me happy I own my house and can do what I want. Christmas wreaths and crosses, but no Jewish items. I would fight that to the end. And I celebrate Christmas.

Is it private property or a public place?

It's a dicey area. If she owns the unit, it is HER private property.

I have a serious problem with HOAs.

It's probably a condo with an HOA, more than likely. Which basically means she signed a deal with the devil to live there.

Was she forced to agree with the HOA when she signed it? I hate the circumstance, but I have little pitty for those who set themselves up for failure.

Oh No!! not the condo police. I live in a condo and was never required to sign any document regarding adherence to their rules and regulations a/k/a by-laws. I do try to obey the rules whenever reasonable, however, don't tread on my religious beliefs, a condo is still part of USA right?
