Default CMP M1 (modified) bayonet, AFH, 1942

My CMP M1 (modified) bayonet, AFH 1942, arrived today. This thing was covered in cosmoline - three times as much as came on my entire M1 Garand back in January.

An hours worth of scrubbing with WD40 and PB blaster got most of it off; I left a little inside for lubrication. I asked for a 1942 date to match the Garand, which CMP accommodated me. Order was submitted electronically 6/17 and received today, 10 days later.

It seems bayonets are mix-masters as well. The toggle/spring is marked UC, Utica Cutlery I presume. Scabbard is a M7 in decent shape. Park finish on the bayonet is about 70%. Foreign tang marking N02377; blade marked AFH, bomb, 1942. Cost $65 + shipping; about $10 less than the closest web-competitor I have seen.

PS: It does NOT fit my M17 Eddystone - seems the mount is too thick.

Nice bayo. I'm glad the CMP could grant your request for a 1942 date.

The 1905 bayo (both the 16" and the 10") will fit your Garand as well as the 1903/1903A3. The model 1917 bayonet is 17" and is basically identical to the British P14 Enfield bayonet. Close but no cigar.

I have been told on the GB American forum that a UC marked release is correct for an AFH modified bayonet. Go figure.

Also for the M17, the 12 gauge trench shotgun bayonet is interchangeable.

There it is, your reason to buy a trench gun.
    Nice Bayo, BTW.
