I'm ignorant, but trying to wise up: Legalities of cleaning gun on your outside deck?
Full disclosure - Yes, I'm ignorant on the details, but am trying to understand, be sensible and smart. At the acknowledged risk of being stupid, I'm going to ask anyway in the hope of enlightenment.
I'm a City of Boston LTC Class A - Restricted. Can I legally clean my firearm on my own private roof deck---or am I restricted to inside confines of my physical domain?
It's a beautiful summer night, just back from the range---it sure would be nice to step out on my deck and clean my gun listening to some good tunes. If a neighbor on the next deck over hears and sees slides being racked and drops a dime on me for being out in the open with a gun(s), is my doorbell going to ring with Boston's finest inquiring what's going on or worse?
I must say, I feel like a falsely condemned man when you feel you need to hide your gun ownership behind closed doors and windows to avoid being called out as a bad guy, crazy, threat to society because you are cleaning a gun. But perhaps, that is the price I must pay -- clean my guns inside with the shades drawn. Ugh.

Just leave your dog near the door, he'll stop the police when the door is smashed in.
On the other hand, your suitability will be questioned and permit revoked if you make waves. So sad really.Licensed Journeyman.

It is Boston, you know if some of the sheep see it, they are going to yell GUN! and the Boston STOP team will be there,They will take you, and your guns because you scared the sheep. In the process shoot some dog.In Boston, you do not show or let anyone know that you have guns.If someone ask what is in the rifle case, just tell them you play in a rock band.

Having lived in Cambridge for 10+ years I felt like I was always aware of my neighbors after I was asked to remove my NRA sticker from my vehicle in my off street parking space!
It got so bad once that some one smelled Hoppes and asked me the next day what I was up to! I started cleaning at the range.
I won't go in to the brevity/depths of my responses.
Good luck with your situation and get out as soon as you can.S.E.R.E. Survival Evasion Resistance Escape

Not just neighbors but because it is Meninostan, you also have an array of helicopters flying around reporting news, traffic, ferrying badly injured people to the hospitals, etc. If one of the pilots spots someone with a gun, you can count on being on the evening news! I'm very serious about this, I wouldn't do it.
Back in my DEC days, I've taken a few choppers into/out of Boston and at 500-1000' you'd be amazed at what you can see! And the DEC pilots did report into the local radio/TV stations plus most were Vietnam Vets and could spot a gun from quite a distance I would assume since they survived that war.Mass. It sucks, but I would not do it either. Boston is 1 of the worst. Any other city or small town no issue, but Boston? Yikes.
As for the Hoppe's, I love the stuff. I would clean my guns in a closet with the stuff, and it doesn't bother me.

All...thanks so much for the insight and advice---it is much appreciated! Though I shouldn't be surprised by the feedback, I can't help but say how stunned I am. I never even considered the interest Hoppe's 9 might generate--luckily I use M-Pro 7.
SERE--I can't believe someone would have the nerve to ask you to remove your NRA sticker. Shocking...just shocking. Wow.
