    Default Which firearms magazine (literature)?

I'd like to subscribe to a gun magazine that fits my taste so I'm looking here for advice. I'm interested in reading about current handguns and semi-auto rifles, but I'm also interested in vintage firearms, particularly those used during wartime both domestic and abroad. Ammunition and reloading articles would also be great. However I have no interest in shotguns, I don't hunt and I'm not a collector so a magazine catering to those readers wouldn't interest me.

My grandfather had a subscription to American Rifleman years back but I wasn't really impressed by it; IIRC it was mostly old firearms with a historical backdrop. Guns & Ammo seems promising as does American Handgunner and Combat Handguns. What would you recommend and why? Thanks

There is a magazine just called Handguns that I pick up once in a while. Usually some pretty decent articles on new handguns that are coming out. (even though us MA subjects won't be getting our hands on most of them any time soon.) Since my interests in the firearms realm covers many different areas I can pick up pretty much any gun rag and find something in it that holds my attention.
Looking for a leather shoulder holster for a Glock 19. Right handed, vertical preferred. Also looking for a 8-10' used green (or other easily camouflaged colors) kayak for duck hunting season. Will drive to pick up. PM me if you've got either!

IMO, the all suck. American Rifleman sucks less than most. G&A, AH, and CH love every gun they test, even if it is a POS.

Gun Magazines "love" guns because gun manufacturers are their advertisers and primary source of income.

Gun Tests is a private gun testing company that does provide honest reviews of guns. It's a mainly black and white, text based publication with a few black and white pictures. Best I've found for honest reviews, but they rarely cover the brand new stuff, only cover a few firearms per issue, and all similar types. (side by side comparisons)

American Riflemen, Handgunner would both seem to be up your alley for the more biased magazines.

I read that the gun mags wont review one the dont like or has problems during testing. Saves them from going against their advertisers.

I think that you are overestimating their integrity.

i got disappointed in mainstream gun-magazines.
just tired flipping 3 pages worth of ads to find 1 page of worthy reading.
    but that's just me.

Shotgun news is usually interesting to me, at least. I like the historical gun write-ups they do. It does also keep me up to date on new imports of C&R guns and interesting home smithing projects - none of which help my bank account.

I think American Rifleman does a good job with historical articles about firearms. I read American Handgunner since my primary interest is handguns. Those are the only two I subscribe to. I'll read others from time to time, but not on a regular basis.
